Ram Chandra Series I only read first book so can't comment much

In the first book Dashrath ji was not at all happy with Shree Ram's birth, his birth was even considered bad omen as Dashrath ji lost the war with Ravan on that day when Ram ji was born, due to this he was never kind to Shree Ram till ram ji saved his life during Shikaar and Kekeyi was also not on team Ram from starting, she disliked Ram from birth till vachan saga. After Ram saved Dashrath Ji's life he started loving him tooo much seeing how Shree Ram never got angry on him or Kaikeyi for behaving poorly, he also was very calm and understanding and always showed patience by controlling his anger towards every situation .

According to the book Manthara though always wanted bharat to be the king but the reason she hated Ram so much was because when her daughter got gang r**ped , according to laws of Ayodhya the minor couldn't get death sentence, so only 1-2 criminals got death sentenced and the minors were given the punishment juvenile got. This angered her and that's why she hated Ram because he supported law and order over everything and believes laws are equal for everyone no one should get special treatment or added benefits

I don't understand this. Weren't all four boys born on the same day with a difference of few hours? Then if it was a bad omen, he should have disliked all four of them, why specific hatred for Ram? Or did he change this part there?

Kekayi part is understandable, I still don't understand why would anyone love other's children more than own. Though that's what we have always read/heard

Seems he wanted to give some sympathy to Manthara, was only Ram against punishing the juveniles? Others didn't have follow the law??

In Amish's book they were not born on same day.

Yup kakeyi ka hi character sabse real laga mujhe in that book after Ram

Ram was not against punishing anyone, he considered Manthara's daughter as his sister, loved her very much, she got killed as well after molestation. He was very sad and depressed.

But he always promoted law and order in Ayodhya, he was not yuvraj and Dashrath also didn't wanted him to be Yuvraj first but still as prince of Ayodhya he went out to help people, understand what are their expectations from Kings family.

He noticed how corrupted Ayodhya's law judicial system is and decided to change that. After studying every law of Ayodhya he decided to make necessary changes so every law will be applied to each and every citizen no matter if they're police or panchayat member or anyone. When this happened Ayodhya people started respecting him more and more and he became popular.

When Manthara's daughter case happened every person in Ayodhya wanted death sentence for all the criminals but according to law minors can't get death sentences so the main criminal got the punishment that is reserved for minor. Manthara was angry due to this but Ram though not happy with the punishment still didn't say anything as he considered even he's not above law

Ok so he took lot of creative liberty but then he was officially writing fiction so can't blame..

I don't know but I didn't like this Manthara reason. Aside like was Ram friendly with all the children of Dasa Dasi in their palace?

This is like demeaning every character for raising one

He takes lots of creative liberties smiley36but I am just intrigued about Dashrath's character, why he thought to make that character so so grey

In the book there's no mentions of other children. And I think Manthara is also not the daasi but she's some minister if I remember correctly. Not the minister of royal court but of palace but I don't remember her exact post. Her daughter ran an ngo and she was opposite of Manthara, she was rakhi sister of all 4 brothers

Actually he claims that he writes fiction taking some things in background.

Making Dashrath gray to bring a Gopi Bahu angle for Ram was so not needed

Thanks for the information did not know that! All that just doesn’t make me respect him then. He went though the ends of the earth to get her back and didn’t even trust that she was pure? Toh phir faida kya hua? Then the people who question his worthiness as a god are right then. If he’s God (or avatar of God) then he should stand up for right and justice which is what he’s known for, this just leaves a sour taste for me. Sorry but as a woman this irks me a lot that despite all that she still had to prove herself. And him taking the role of a king more serious of a husband and father? That’s what it doesn’t sit right with me, he performed his duty as a son so well but failed as a husband then in my eyes.

What I understood from that part is he wanted all three world to see Sita Mata was pure and no one should raise question about her character. His words were harsh so that she could take the extreme step of entering fire. He also said that he knew she was devoted to him only. That test was not for him, but for the world to see she was pure. This entire thing was a proof for others not for himself.

Character sketch of Dashrath ji baffled me the most, does anyone know from where that inspiration came from?

I haven't read the story but I read a synopsis of it and was intrigued enough. I loved his Meluha books though. Honestly, with books like Amish's books and Palace of Illusions, etc I look at them as mythical fiction in the same realm as Percy Jackson, using the figures we know from myth but making up their own stories, a good entry way into the said culture.

That's a good way to look at itsmiley20! Didn't realize that either. Someone said that dharm is very tricky and we as mortals cannot comprehend the rules of it so this would be one of the cases

according to ranganath ramayan it was written nidra devi appeared before lakshman and he directed her to urmila

in the show here nidra devi is not shown but story follows from that version loosely

so according to that version urmila was not aware of what happened in the fourteen years

by the way another folk i read sita gave a boon to urmila that she can do three works simultaneously so she was serving the mothers, painting and sleeping or any other three works simultaneously
