Mere sapnon ki rani Roohi Roohi Roohi

Film: Shahjehan (1946)

Music: Naushad

Lyrics: Majrooh Sultanpuri

Singers: Kundanlal Saigal & Mohammad Rafi

This song brought Rafi's lifelong dream to fruition.. so it's yet another real life dream come true song. Rafi idolized Saigal, & his first time ever singing on stage was in a Saigal concert where the lights went off and he was called upon to entertain the audience as a stopgap arrangement while people were waiting for the main event. He got noticed by Shyam Sunder who gave him his first break. So Rafi's career was indirectly kickstarted by Saigal. It was Naushad who helped Rafi fulfil his dream of singing alongside his idol with this song.

We all have dreams, and we always love to dream more and more. In fact, dreams are more facinating than reality. All our dreams can come true if we decide to pursue them. Yesterday is but today's memory, and tomorrow is today's dream!! Whoever looks outside dreams; whoever looks inside awakes. Life is, in a way, half a dream and half reality. When the dream ends and when reality strikes us, we don't know.

Yes: I am a dreamer. For a dreamer like me, it is easy to walk on clouds and can find my way by moonlight to reach the end of the horizon!!

Very beautiful theme Lizzie. smiley31 Let us dream for a while , while the entire world is wading through the hard realities!!

Is the painter's imagination inspired by the sunset to fill her paintbrush with dreamy pigments? Certainly, the movie director seems inspired by his actress wife to imagine a nonexistent occasion for multiple costume changes. The language is Marathi.

Lyrics

कल्पनेचा कुंचला

स्वप्नरङ्गी रङ्गला

चित्र मी काढू कसे?

सजणा, सांग ना

Kalpaneçā kuṃçalā

Svapna-raṅgī raṅgalā

Citra mī kāḍhū kase?

Sazaṇā, sāṅga nā

Imagination's paintbrush's

Coloured with dreamy pigments

How should I paint the picture?

Boyfriend, tell, won't you?

हे निळेपण पांघरावे

गीत माझे मोहरावे

शब्द मी माळू कसे?

सजणा, सांग ना

He niḷepaṇa pāṅgharāve

Gīta māzhe moharāve

Śabda mī māḷū kase?

Sazaṇā, sāṅga nā

This blueness should blanket me

My song should blossom

How should I wreath words?

Boyfriend, tell, won't you?

खेळतो हा धुंद वारा

या धुक्याच्या शुभ्र धारा

रङ्ग मी खेळू कसे?

सजणा, सांग ना

Kheḷato hā dhunda vārā

Yā dhukyācyā śubhra dhārā

Raṅga mī kheḷū kase?

Sazaṇā, sāṅga nā

This entranced wind tosses

These pure white streams of fog

How should I toss pigments?

Boyfriend, tell, won't you?

आज संध्या रूप घेई

प्रीतिचे मज दान देई

गूज मी बोलू कसे?

सजणा, सांग ना

Āza saṃdhyā rūpa gheī

Prītiçe maza dāna deī

Gūza mī bolū kase?

Sazaṇā, sāṅga nā

Today dusk takes shape

And gives me love's gift

How should I confess the secret?

Boyfriend, tell, won't you?

This is one of my favourite vintage songs smiley14. It is quite tragic Mugdha Chitnis's life ended at 31smiley18. I looked her up on google and found her parents have written a book about hersmiley1.
