I think it's interesting none of the family members have commented on it. He's the only one who does this now. Angad took on this style to become Sunny Sood but that was it.

I know the writers probably didn't put much thought behind it. They made the switch simply because he's a "star" now but, I would think it's a big deal for a Sikh family. If anything, I would think Daarji would say something. But again, I'm sure the writers have zero thoughts about this beyond a simple "costume" change. And I'm sure that it's only me and a few others who might have something to say and have a problem about the switch to a cap.

Darji raised a ruckus over cigarettes. But Veer removing his dastar / pagg is a much much..much bigger deal.

Rarely is there an instance where a sikh boy/man removes his pagg and cuts his hair, and the sky does not fall (metaphorically speaking). Parents threaten or actually throw out their son, threaten suicide, cry and pray etc.

It takes a lot of angst, pain, quarrels, soul searching before there is acceptance

This was a major inflection point in Veer's life, and his parents. A lot of very real drama could have been created around it.

About drinking...sad reality is majority of sikhs drink, even those who are observant sikhs. Fact of life. Hence less possibility of creating drama around the issue other than alcoholism (which they addressed with Inder)

I dont think the writers know or want to know more about sikh culture.

Absolutely. This thought crossed my mind actually. Veer just took a 360 turn within a day Or two, removed his pag and no one gives a damn. They could have spun a plot around it...and That would have delivered some interesting drama too. But no! They want to show illicit relationships. Sad! When they have projected and highlighted the show via its Sikh backdrop, they should show some respect to the culture and community.
