If it's true that diamonds are a girl's best friend, then Sreejita De has lost a real good friend. The actress lost her solitaire ring worth Rs 95,000 while shooting for an episode of her serial Annu Ki Ho Gayi Wah Bhai Wah on Star One. Thefts on the sets of televison serials are nothing new and actors have lost expensive cell phones, watches, wallets and other belongings. But this must be one of the biggest losses ever. What made it worse was that the ring was a gift to Sreejita from her boyfriend. Speaking about the incident, Sreejita says, "We were supposed to shoot for a scene where two engagements were taking place. The unit members forgot to get a dummy ring and the shooting was held up. My co-star Amit Verma suggested that I should use my ring so that the shoot could continue. I agreed." Little did Sreejita know she would not see her precious ring again. "When the scene was shot, I ran to the monitor to take a look. Then when I asked for my ring, no one had any clue where it was. I was heartbroken and burst into tears. I even screamed at the unit members, but that was of no use," reports the actress. Sreejita initially thought of filing a police complaint. "It was an engagement scene and there were around 150-200 people on the sets. I realised there was no point in going to the police," she says. Producers Tony and Deeya Singh gave her some money as part of the cost of the ring. "And Amit offered to pay the rest because he felt guilty he had suggested that I use the ring. But it wasn't his fault and I refused to take any money from him," says Sreejita. Her boyfriend, meanwhile, has promised to buy her another ring for her birthday in July.
