I think it still totally depends. Many people will say that Tom Selleck looked absolutely handsome in his mustache.

I don't think there is universally one style that is better than the other. It just depends on your face cut and style. Some men look better clean-shaven, some look better with stubble, and some look better with various styles of facial hair.

Rohit Sharma looks awkward and pudgy clean-shaven, but the stubble is a very good look on him. On the other hand Moeen Ali looked very handsome before he started growing his beard for religious reasons.

Tom Selleck is always the mustache exception. He looks weird without it.

Or Murray Bartlett as Armond in 'White Lotus'

Sam Elliot is also another classic stache

But these are subjective and I am sure there are people who think these are weird, creepy, or hideous.
