I guess she was forced to wear for the pag phera rituals. Armaan probably didn't want to upset his family and pleaded her to wear. In that case she did do a favor on others. How can you expect anyone to even agree to their whims and demands when every moment they belittle you?
Coming to the wardrobe malfunction.. there's an entire jobless village staying at Poddar zoo, but no one thought to make sure the new bahus are all set before the function. 
Not everyone's life revolve around kitchen politics like Poddars and women's only job is not to cook and clean and look pretty all the time. Especially not a 22 yr old college student. But does the Poddars and others like them have the brain capacity to understand this.. nope.
