U r so right about Z stereotyping rich girls.Him choosing Ayra has a lot do with his experiences with toxic parenting and also his perceptions formed from societal stereotypes.

And coming to Z-Ayra’s bond, my Q is - can a relationship thrive just on companionship(with just respect n comfort)? What if one partner develops intense romantic feelings for someone else? I see people talking abt how Z n A’s love language is a lil different n that they truly love each other- I don’t quite agree with that because if they had truly loved each other they would’ve fought against all odds, here these 2 were so quick in giving up at the first sign of opposition or difficulty.Or is it bad writing after all ?? I as a viewer want to know more about Zaid, they better give him dialogues n make him talk!!

Zaid is heavily operating on guilt so him falling for MJ organically is not easier but feeling deep sympathy for her condition and blaming himself I see more chances.
MJ seeks love but can she like actually fall in love with someone?Right now she desperately wants to stay married to him than actually want him.

Ayra is all for revenge and will probably go too far in her path that she might destroy her marriage or who knows Zaid will pull her out in time before it’s too late

That’s my problem too with Zaid and MJ being endgame. It will mean Asif was right all along especially if they continue to show Ayra in a bad light. He even gloated about what a wonderful judge of character he was. On the other hand, I can’t get on board with Ayra either for those reasons that have been listed out earlier. It feels like there was always an intentional attempt to show them as not passionate couple in love that can’t stand the thought of losing one another.

Like you said, Zaid does operate heavily on guilt so he will feel guilty over what is happening with MJ. She’s banking on this guilt. How long can he just make decisions based on how guilty he feels? Sure guilt is an important human emotion but he can’t let it dictate all his actions. If he ends up with MJ then it has to be for love and not because he feels sympathetic towards. Empathy is important but just functioning on feelings of guilt isn’t ideal. Also I can’t figure out if it makes him a good guy or is it a bit of saviour complex where he thinks he holds the key to fixing their problems. It might be a bit of both.

Right now MJ’s goal isn’t getting love but rather winning but sometimes it feels like she just needs acceptance. If she truly changes then a relationship between her and Zaid is possible.

Personally I don’t think a relationship can thrive on companionship alone. And honestly I am yet to see Ayra treating Zaid with respect. I feel it’s his own misconception that they had that in the relationship based on those stereotypes we talked about. I agree that they gave on each other fairly easily and when Zaid left everything for Ayra it had to more with his feelings of guilt and his need to fix everything. I also think it was about a little rebellion against his dad. Although I didn’t mind silent Zaid in this last episode, I kind of enjoyed seeing his uncomfortable, shocked and frustrated expressions, but yes we need him to talk soon. Also more than just Ayra…Baba..we need some meaningful dialogue.

Do you think that they only gave Zaid a monologue in the teaser because he doesn’t really share his feelings with anybody? Like we don’t really get a chance to know exactly how he is feeling, his backstory and events that shaped him. He has a father like Asif, that must have caused some trauma in his life. I realized that he talks about those feelings of not having anyone and trying to fight battle in the monologue so maybe that’s something that gave me insight. I don’t know if general viewers have seen that and if so remember it. I hope that’s not in place of us hearing things from his perspective. We will need that soon but I don’t think we will get that at least another few episodes. It looks like he has some more dialogue in the next episode but it might only be about him trying to keep the peace and him just giving into Ayra’s demands.

This poem "This be the verse" by Philip Larkin reminds me of all the Mein chars.

This Be The Verse

BY PHILIP LARKIN

They f*** you up, your mum and dad.

They may not mean to, but they do.

They fill you with the faults they had

And add some extra, just for you.

But they were f***d up in their turn

By fools in old-style hats and coats,

Who half the time were soppy-stern

And half at one another’s throats.

Man hands on misery to man.

It deepens like a coastal shelf.

Get out as early as you can,

And don’t have any kids yourself.

I really hope they dont give Asif and Jaffar a free pass in this story!

Hi!

Quite a while since I've been here, but Mein is a drama I'm following after a long time.

Wahaj, Ayeza, Zanjabeel: all 3 make this drama very happening. Hoping to have some interesting discussions on the writing.

I feel Zaid has blocked MJ from the romantic zone completely. Actually it feels like he has blocked those feelings wrt anyone, including Ayra. He is willing to give a relationship his all- because he's committed and will stay loyal. What he has with Ayra doesn't feel like a bond - it's more like an agreement he doesn't want to break, from his side. If she hadn't brought up the arm twisting angle- he would have stepped smoothly into the partner role in the new agreement and they would have taken it from there. MJ and Zaid entered the marriage with no expectations, so it'd have been interesting to see their growth.

Anyway, thanks to Asif uncle, it looks even more interesting now.

When MJ meets Zaid at her father's house and thanks him for being supportive and his attitude towards her....in fact all their interactions till the marriage - there's something intriguing about their past. Zaid has made it look very formal when it should be a very easy going conversation between two people who know each other quite well... suddenly there was a wall between them which MJ least expected. Anyway she didn't care much for it and let it go as his nature. Question is, why did he suddenly turn so formal when he was quite friendly on the night of the party before the D was announced. What disturbed him? Did he just not want to be dragged into her problems? That's exactly the message he conveyed to her.

You explained Zaid and Ayra’s relationship perfectly!

As for Zaid and Mubashira’s relationship from before the wedding, I feel like she felt they were on friendlier terms than he ever did. He was friendly at the anniversary party but he never wanted to go. MJ meanwhile is saying that she would kill him if he didn’t come which made it seem like they were close. I think MJ has an image of being impossible and arrogant and I’m guessing Zaid has seen this firsthand over the years. The way he reacted and left right away when she pushed the glass of water in his hand. He tells his dad from the hospital that they shouldn’t get involved in their personal affairs and that he should know that he doesn’t want anything to do with them. He doesn’t have a good opinion of Rayyan either. Zaid is a bit judgemental of people in his own class, lol. Maybe subconsciously they remind him of his own father and it’s why he gravitated towards someone like Ayra.

Something definitely changed after he saw how aggressive MJ was at her anniversary party that he didn’t even want to pretend to be friendly with her. She was just served divorce papers in the most humiliating manner and her husband secretly married her best friend so I kind of get where she’s coming from. Zaid I guess doesn’t. Maybe somewhere he blames MJ for the divorce as well since he sees her as an impossible person. I don’t think MJ ever judged Zaid and felt they were somewhat friends. Even on their Walima night, she says that they were once friends so he could talk to her. She meant that authentically too - she wasn’t playing a game. Even though Zaid seems to not like Mubashira earlier, I still felt a little something between them. There was something about how his gaze would linger on her for a bit.

Not just his gaze lingering on...

He was on very friendly terms up until she was married and unavailable. He was there for her as a friend and well wisher when she needed him or someone by her side the most. Once that moment passed, she was single and available and suddenly Zaid wants to keep a distance...makes you wonder if he had feelings for her once which he learned to bury and decided on having a relationship he could have a hold on, at the same time respecting and cherishing the woman in his life. He decided to design his love story, kind of.

Thinking of MJ's marriage too....makes no sense actually. The guy was after her and wooed her. She was not exactly in love with him, but she adjusted for him. She didn't lose her individuality or personality and the guy couldn't take her brutal honesty...this guy was not at par with her family. Why did MJ agree to marry a guy like that? Did she think such a guy would never leave her? She definitely has fear of abandonment way before her marriage. Then she clings on to this marriage, willing to give it her patience as well as tactfulness in full strength...

Putting two and two together, I don't think Zaid had issues about her personality always...and I doubt he blames her for the divorce...it looks more like he doesn't want to walk that path again. He was willing to settle for a lifeless contract marriage only after Ayra's refusal and it seemed the best course for the family and business.

Wow that’s actually a really interesting view that I hadn’t even considered. It actually makes sense. I wonder if they will ever clarify
