Mein in a nutshell is Zaid's and Mub's journey from "What I am" to "what I was" due to ego and self-esteem issues.

The story began with the

1)"What I Am" phase---rooted in ego(for Mub) and fragile self-esteem(for Zaid)

2)Triggering incident---that challenges their ego and self esteem-- Divorce(Mub),Breakup(Z), these 2 events were their "Turning Points".

3)Ego Defense---As a result, everything that happened after the turning point was nothing but an act of EGO DEFENSE.

4)Isolation/Rock-Bottom phase--Zaid since the last episode is in the "Mein" phase(isolation) and now in the current episode/n the one to follow Z will reach a low point perhaps losing everything.

5)Self-Reflection/Reconciliation: There will come a time (maybe after almost destroying Mubashira) --his moment of reckoning where he will start reflecting on his actions and how destructive it has been, this is when the transformation- change n growth n reconciliation happens finally leading to..

6)New State("What I was") where both these characters will have a healthier sense of self-esteem and a deeper understanding of who they are.

By the end of it all, Z's and M's character arc wouldve explored themes of personal growth, humility and the consequences of unchecked ego.

Both these characters have many dimensions and transitions which makes for an interesting watch(thanks to Ayeza n Wahaj!). No point harping on this but had someone like Haisab Hassan helmed this project, this woulve been a diff. ball game altogether! But no complaints, the characters are intriguing n the actors(minus Ayra) are doing a fab job and they are giving us something to chew on every week!

I like how you listed everything out. This is what this drama is all about. These characters aren’t supposed to be likeable at the moment, especially Zaid who seemingly came off as a good guy but is acting out right now. Things will get a lot worse before they get better. Everything you listed is supported by both monologues by Zaid, the one in the teaser as well as the one in the first episode. It’s the journey of two flawed individuals which I’m finding intriguing.

I didn’t realize that Mein is written by the same writer who wrote Fitoor. I know a lot of people have seen her other work but I haven’t. I guess this is the only one. So no one significant dies in this. I was thinking how they ended up making Hamza the bad guy in Fitoor so maybe they will go the same route with Ayra?

Wahaj played Hamza so well in Fitoor, I honestly felt like he was the best thing in it, so you really felt for his character. I don’t think the same will happen with Ayra. I feel bad for her story wise but the way she plays her character, I feel nothing. Fitoor’s story sucked though. I hated Dilnasheen’s family in particular. They were horrible to her and never had her back. Their lack of support lead her back to Hamza which I feel like was horrible for both of them. He was clearly a suicidal addict and was so emotionally fragile. He needed to move on from Dilnasheen and work on his recovery, instead she allowed herself to re-enter his life and reject him once again. As much as I felt for Hamza, I knew he wasn’t good for Dilnasheen. He was headed in such a destructive path and she needed to stay away from that for her own good. She needed a break from her husband and if she had a supportive family, she could have turned towards them for support rather than a damaged Hamza.

I feel like Jaffer is also putting MJ in a tough position although I don’t think he would ever abandon her. Zaid is taking, by how they’re describing it, inappropriate pictures with girls, treating MJ with zero respect and Jaffer keeps blaming her for not trying enough or lacking something that is driving Zaid towards other women. He also keeps throwing her divorce in her face. Zaid is obviously doing these things so MJ leaves him but her dad just won’t let her. How can he not see how damaging this is to his daughter? To this drama’s credit, at least they are seemingly trying to show that the dads are problematic.

I started this show but then i dropped it bec i feel that this is a show i need to binge.. With one episode a week, i lose the effect of internal conflict that the characters are going through.

Like you said the people in the show are intriguing and are not the usual clichéd . I'm waiting for it to finish so i can watch it all together

That’s a really good idea. I hate waiting a week for an episode. Binge-watching would keep its momentum. That was my plan but I just end up watching it.

Fitoor was well directed, very visually appealing and didn’t have technical issues. It also started off strong but I had a problem with the messaging in it towards the end. I felt like Dilnasheen came out as the bad guy that needed to redeem herself. Her family’s wrongdoings were completely whitewashed. No one considered why she turned to Hamza in the first place. Her husband kept questioning about her past all while having his ex living in the same house as him, her family told her to hide it since it is so shameful, he slaps her and I don’t think he regrets it either. Her family was the worst and wouldn’t support their daughter. She had no where else to turn except towards Hamza who was initially giving her the respect she needed. In the end, it was poor Haider and meanie Dilnasheen with Hamza being the villain.

One thing I did like about Mein is that MJ being a divorced woman wasn’t the issue for Zaid. He mentioned that was rude and arrogant but didn’t once say but she’s a divorced woman. That usually is an issue in South Asian communities. Her dad on the other hand keeps bringing it up. Even more than the divorce though, I think the main issue here is that Mohib has accused her publicly that she is impossible to live with.

I haven’t seen Pyaar ke Saadkay but I’ve heard good things about it. It seems like an offbeat, artsy type and I have to be in the mood for something like that.

Dear, Pyaar ke Sadqe is a must watch. Drop everything and watch that off. Bilal and Yumna were absolutely phenomenal in that. The innocence and idiocy both have is the beauty of the show. You really must watch it. A hundred thousand times better than watching Mein

Jaffar uncle now just wants to save face. He is done with everything I guess. But you are right. I expected Jaffar to confront Asif because Asif did it inspire of knowing that Zaid loves another girl.

Ohhh? You write fanfictions? Kispe? Mein pe likha hai kuch?

@bold: I have written fanfictions on Mein but not on MJ and Zaid smiley36

I can’t when the hero bores me to death smiley37
