What they said:

"I think for me, what I judge is our preparation. We've got to make sure that each game we're going into, we believe that we can win. And I certainly believe that every game we go into from here on, we can win." -Afghanistan head coach Jonathan Trott.

"I think we weren't where we wanted to be in the first game. We were considerably better in the last game against Bangladesh and this is another opportunity for us to take another stride forward and keep building that momentum and that progression towards the business end of this tournament and making sure that we are where we need to be by the back end of it." - Joe Root

We're back at the Arun Jaitely stadium and we're back at a venue where the 4 World Cup scores so far read as 428, 326, 272 and 273 (in 35 overs).

Unlike the other venues, Delhi has been completely batting friendly. The grass cover has only helped the ball slide on and with short boundaries all around, the batters from every team have had a whale of a time, obviously at the expense of the poor bowlers.

So, it's England v Afghanistan today and on paper, this looks like a slight mismatch. When the two teams last met in aWorld Cup match, England blasted 25 sixes, 17 of them alone by captain Eoin Morgan and Rashid Khan returned with 0 for 110 off 9 overs, his worst ever figures in ODI cricket.

Cut to 2023, both teams will view this match as a must-win game. England recovered well from the New Zealand jolt to thrash Bangladesh in their last match while Afghanistan haven't quite got their 'A' game into play so far. With India, New Zealand and South Africa showing strong form, it's imperative for both teams to not slip-up.
