after many months, I just watched some of last week's episodes. some thoughts:
my context:
I gave up on this show because I was irritated that viaan's transformation happened too suddenly and same with katha's acceptance. he didn't struggle in a logical way and all of a sudden became saintly which just made me roll my eyes.
their love story beginning was so meh because it didn't feel authentic at all. instead of tuning in, I tuned out they basically brushed the ONS under the rug and neither talked about it.
was so weird that katha was so nonchalant about what happened like she was regular on tinder/bumble type app and all of this is hota rahte hain types.
the other part of the love story that turned off viewers including myself was the inequality between katha and viaan. by becoming a saint, he went to the extreme where katha was always on top and he was on bottom. he was trying to make up for everything by putting her on a pedestal and it was always about what she wants.
so those were some of the reasons I totally lost interest with the show and especially with some really boring tracks that felt like vlogs, I dropped it months ago.
given that context, here is my view:
katha has always been an extreme mother and her relationship with aarav always felt strange. even the kid was weird with him acting like an adult at times. so I remember reading that one of the objections that maya had was that as a single mother, katha would always prioritize her son. basically maya was proved right.
from the onset, katha went beyond normal to save her son by agreeing to the ONS without even telling viaan what the money was for. it was always about her pride and her ego that she wouldn't lean on anyone and do it all herself.
she justified her actions that she was right in pursuing the ONS because it was for her son and viaan had committed a sin. that was then never really revisited. so she never struggled with the consequences of the night and having doubts about whether she did right or wrong. it was always about aarav and his needs.
if aarav had hated viaan, she would have rejected him from the start. she would have never even looked at viaan. there was no push pull to their story and everything happened too easy.
now, the truth came out, viaan got dumped and she didn't look back.
the new engagement is most like arranged marriage which the garewals set up. she sees aarav as needing a male presence in his life as she is not able to handle it. I won't be surprised if the new guy is closely related to the garewals and is actually some cousin or something. so she might see it as going back to the old circle.
for katha, aarav is always #1. if she can do ONS for him without blinking an eye, she would also get engaged and get married to someone else without batting an eye. even if she has feelings for viaan, she will push it down because everything is always about aarav.
viaan was from the beginning a distance #2. they never really had a push pull argument back and forth about the ONS track. he never fought back and just accepted that he was the bad guy.
she compartmentalized. by not fighting for viaan with the garewals, it shows that heart of heart, she still saw viaan as the sinner and herself as some innocent puppet. she has never accepted that what happened between them was her choice and it was consensual even if she was under duress.
basically viaan ends up being the bad guy while she gets to walk away. if she had fought for viaan, she would have to admit that what happened between them was her own doing to a certain extent.
so basically katha is being katha.
I don't know if you've watched the og or not, but compared to that ML, Viaan's journey was a lot more believable😂
As I've said before too, he's like the FL of the show. Too nice, too noble, loyal to a fault, too sacrificing, family-oriented. Apart from his one fault-his thinking about women-the man is shown almost saintly. And that sainthood just elevated in Katha's influence. Both mahaan people mixed their mahaanta and became the most mahaan couple ever. Saare human emotions and reactions khatam ho gye aur bas mahanta hi reh gyi.
Viaan gave her a free pass to walk all over him. His every action began to be taken with the goal to please katha. He felt guilty and that guilt drove every thought. He wanted Katha to stay at EC and that gave her an upper hand in professional space also. There's clearly a power imbalance in their relationship, and Katha is the one who wears the pants. She is driving the car and he is just riding shotgun. I hope this breakup balances out their relationship a bit more now. Or maybe tip the scales in his favour. He also deserves to be chased for once.
but yea, I enjoyed what I saw of the original. the ML never lost his spine. I really want to watch the arabic version which I heard is excellent but I can't find it. sigh.

yaar if u recite this kind of sher then tears fell from eyes..dil toh baccha hai jee..
