"Please sign the document and let the court finally put an end to this case, and you two are finally mutually divorced," said the judge."D-I-V-O-R-C-E-D," Sahiba spelled the word as her mind zoned out. Her body shook with the traumatic words.
She looked around the room, her family sobbing, her in-laws' family displaying mixed emotions—some were happy, some were sad, and some seemed hopeless. Lastly, she looked at Angad, standing motionless as usual, not rebellious.She wanted to cry; more than that, she wanted to scream. However, her body felt numb, unable to do anything other than send electric jolts through her. Her shaky hands proceeded to sign the document, and she did so while taking her last deep breath.
She decided to leave this city as it had never given her anything other than anxiety and agony. That night, she stood in front of the bus stop, feeling as lonely as her life. She sat on the bench with her belongings, thinking, "Wasn't I a good wife or a good daughter? I sacrificed myself on the altar at the wedding, and till today, I've been forced to compromise when nobody likes me. I was just a guest, nothing else. But why me?"She felt dizzy thinking about these things. Impatiently, she waited for the bus, but she felt hopeless as no bus had arrived yet.
The pain, the loneliness, the betrayal, the trauma, and everything she had faced formed a dark cloud in front of her eyes as tears welled up. She cried, her heart cried within her, and finally, she knelt down, unable to bear the burden of the pain.
The tears blurred her vision, and soon, everything went black.—"Get your ass from here, mister!" said the man as he lifted Sahiba in his arms. The driver helped him settle Sahiba inside the car."To the house," he ordered his driver. His eyes wandered as to why a woman was lying unconscious on the road in the middle of the night. He checked her pulse and oxygen levels, feeling relieved that everything seemed normal. She is alive, he thought to himself."Call the doctor right now, tell him there's an emergency," he instructed his staff as they reached the house.
He placed Sahiba on the bed and asked the female staff to look after her. The doctor arrived 15 minutes later. "Amarjeet, where's the patient?"Amar pointed towards the lady lying on the bed. The doctor examined her, and Amar stood nearby, watching the doctor's movements. "She must be under some tension or anxiety; otherwise, everything is fine.""Thanks, doc," he said, and both he and the doctor left the room. "Take care of her; she'll regain consciousness in a while," the doctor told the staff."Sir, that lady is awake.
She's yelling…" Amar rushed to the room where Sahiba was screaming at the top of her lungs, "I got kidnapped… Someone help me…""Relax, lady. You weren't brought here to be caged. If I had to kidnap you, I would have done it already… relax.""You a******, what do you think? I'm an idiot who would believe in you. I know you want my kidney…"His lips curled into a chuckle as he crossed his arms and looked at her. "Well, your kidney isn't worth it for me. You were lying on an abandoned road, and a guy was about to take advantage of you."
Sahiba's eyes looked at the stranger with a mix of worry and embarrassment as she tried to recall the events. "I ... am ... sorry," three words escaped from her mouth as she cursed her fate that had left her alone like this."What's your name, Miss Kidney Donor?" he asked.
