You do not give rein to her as every body else said...

But for special occasions, like you attend a wedding reception for ex, you want to wear a lbd, she wants you to wear traditional clothing, maybe you can consider her wishes and create the illusion that you respect her

Gift her something which you know she won't wear. When she points it out.. gently tell her that like how she likes to have the right to choose what to wear you do too and as long as you like them and are comfortable in those clothes it's nobody's business.
