I think Abhimanyu is feeling helpless in some ways about how to get through to Abhir.....he's probably thinking that its an overall adjustment problem for Abhir and not any one specific incident cuz Abhir has been acting this silent even before Shivu showed up. That is why he is trying to make Abhir feel safe and understood by telling him that he knows this is all very difficult for him to live in a new environment.

But Abhir is just not fully opening up to anyone....he's feeling let down and confused from all sides. Yes, he gets happy about getting to see his mom but he's not fully opening up to her either about what's bothering him specifically....it's just general anger and confusion swirling in him.
