Prabhaas is just one actor - he does not represent entire group of south stars. So we cannot say if the entire group is desperate based on the actions of one actor. All other examples ( except Ram Charan) are about much older stars. Also, Akshay Kumar starred in robot, Ajay Devgan and Alia bhatt in RRR - are they desperate? I think it as a way to explore new horizons, or try something different. Bollywood does give south actors a way to reach larger population so some of them are trying it strictly on their own terms. Same as Aishwarya, Priyanka, Deepika, Alia trying Hollywood.
Saaho is a clean hit as per BOI - https://boxofficeindia.com/movie.php?movieid=5702.About Adipurush I don't know what went wrong - maybe they thought they were making Ramayan more relatable, or grand and it did not work out well. But how does its failure define Prabhas's stardom. Any bad film with a big star would fail - his job was to get a great opening, build the initial hype and that worked. I don't know how much of the credit goes to Ramayan and how much to Prabhas - but that only a market research team would know. After that WOM was bad and that caught up. If Prabhas continues to deliver failures, he would ultimately lose his popularity / stardom but 1-2 failures is not the end for any major star. We all saw Shahrukh bounce back spectacularly and I really hope to see Aamir back as well.
