His overall childhood shape up seemed to be like that. I think the change that Samia bought in is nice to him but he doesn't have the courage yet fully IMO to accept at last. He was able to criticize himself and his mother for his overall shape up and why he lacks the confidence that makes him easily susceptible to become somebody's slave so easily.
