Again don't trust me I have limited knowledge in cooking.πŸ˜†

No ...i understand. I do add a quarter or half tsp sugar in white pasta or rajma or paneer. Even in mint chutney it tastes good but only if added in very minute amount. But then it's a matter of personal taste as well.

Makes sense. Otherwise the confusion list for samosa recipe would have been much longer than mint chutney. πŸ˜†

My di recently made this chutney with kacha aam, she added ginger too and it did taste yummy so I guess I can try it in regular chutney too..

Yes do try it... but an inch of a ginger not more than that. I even added a little fresh coconut too once and it tasted very good.

Fresh coconut does the same job of Yoghurt actually plus it adds body as well. Also for a healthy twist you can add a handful of pumpkin/ sunflower seeds. This one particularly tastes so good with the paranthas.

I was ready to have this thread closed as my confusion had been addressed until Wat_Up threw an onion my way.

  • 1 tbsp jaggery, grated
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2-3 tbsp lemon juice

Trust the majority opinion, onions are not required.

It's the first time I've heard anyone adding onion to mint sauce.
