Neither. It's a decent movie with a lot of potential. But it doesn't really land. The first and second half are completely different movies and don't really mesh well.
Tara is barely fleshed out and all her actions are strictly for plot purposes. The Ved-Don transformation barely makes sense. It either should have been a Don-Tara rom-com or a finding your own self film for Ved. Honestly, it's to Ranbir-Deepika's credit that the film is watchable at all.
I think it also suffers from how worn out Imtiaz's tropes are. It's all very predictable at this point.
The Corsica scenes in this movie are some of the most cringe-worthy to be ever put on film.
I found Ved relatable in the movie and I think many people can to some degree cuz a lot of people pursue something in life that don't serve their "true" nature. The wider that gap, the worse it gets with people feeling trapped and going through the motions in life. Ved is shown as having an almost split personality in that sense with two completely opposite sets of characteristics, one being his "true" self that he is unable to channel in his regular life, and another of a bot-like dude going through the motions, just trying to stick to what he is "expected" to do.
I really liked the movie cuz it was different and interesting, and touched on concepts that were new or not seen often in movies, which made it unique and fun to watch. For me.
More than spiritual, the movie is psychological in nature and deals with congruence theory -- your "ideal" self, and what happens when you suppress it -- not only suppress it but bury it six feet under and pursue something that goes completely against or is in direct contrast with your "ideal" self.
The movie could have been edited better, and some parts were choppy and dragged. Some were unnecessary, like the Ramayan scenes being thrown in between to build some kind of parallel with the story, could have been done better, if not done away with altogether! Otherwise, I have always liked watching Deepika/Ranbir as a couple onscreen, they look great together and packed a decent enough performance in the movie too.
Movie could have been edited better
Somewhere it felt too slow-paced, boring and even confusing
Ranbir and Deepika gave excellent performances and I do think the story had great potential but the execution was really subpar that in the end, the film was one big mess.
i understood this movie completely. It shows how a person feels suffocated if he pretends to be someone he is not. N its message is people should choose careers of their own choice n try to be themselves. I understand it. But still it was boring for me. Just because a person finds a movie boring that doesn't necessarily mean that they don't understand it. I watched this movie only because of ranbir-deepika as i love their pair n individually as actors also. They acted really well but only actors can't save a boring movie. Their were some scenes in the movie which charged me when i was about sleep. Those were when ranbir comes to deepika's house n shouts on her n they do whole convo at the door only n 2nd was the scene before agar tum saath ho.Originally posted by: DushtKanya
Masterpiece for sure and ahead of its time, even today.
It's not a movie that everyone will understand/connect with. So many people live a like Ved does, and they're so unaware of it that authenticity is a foreign concept. The whole living in a box that's been defined by everyone else but themselves. It's one movie that shows you the mirror in so many ways, and it has a lot of depth with beautifully weaved metaphors.
It might objectively have some flaws but only technically speaking imo. I actually found the pace fully adequate to showcase Ved's journey towards awareness.
Category C) Bogus film category

@bold and where exactly did I imply that? 🤓
All I said was that not everyone would understand the core of it, in a generalized statement. If you understood it and still found it boring, good for you man, I respect your opinion. I however still stand by my opinion that the tones and pace were appropriate as a build-up to the end
ok now i got ur point. But my point was that a movie should be entertaining coz then more people will watch it n more people will get the message of the movie. 3 idiots also had similar message but it is so entertaining but in tamasha, the scenes which were supposed to be funny n entertaining, those were also not funny except that ranbir's boss funny scene. Corsica scenes were supposed to be funny n entertaining but they were not. It was forced humourOriginally posted by: DushtKanya

Boring piece of pretentious art.
