Personally, I feel that the trouble in paradise scheme works for TRP is because people want to see the leads defeat the trouble and emerge stronger and better versions of themselves.

season 1 was based on that theme. Naitik-Akshara deals with common issues of a couple living in a joint family. season 1 is the most successful season. So, I guess we have our answer
