I don't understand the concept of "You are welcome" after a "Thank You"

Welcome to do what exactly? Am I inviting an errand or an issue in my life?

I just go "Don't thank me for such a small thing" so they understand that I should not be bothered with trivial matters in the future

I use it with my coworkers. I usually say you are welcome because I do not want to act like it was not a big deal 😆
