People are hypocrites yaar i tell you, they want that oscar but they will act like it is beneath them. Karan Johar after Lagaan became a big hit said directors lost their minds and wanted to make Lagaan like movies to win that oscar, but that is when things blew up in their faces because authenticity died.
RRR should be proud of making a truly over the top south film, it doesn't cater to any western sentiments it is just masala thriller with absolutely ridiculous stunts that has only one aim ENTERTAINMENT. So if it wins it is a win for originality and creativity and we should celebrate it. Because being original is not what Indian cinema is known for sadly.
And the grumblings are coming from the sour bollywood bunch, who look down upon south indian films who have stolen their thunder in the last decade.
Well said. This happens everywhere, when something or someone becomes popular and gets success, people r sometimes unable to digest it.
Whatever maybe the genre of RRR, it had its flaws at certain scenes, but it had won in entertaining the masses. When it won the oscar, people should have celebrated that an indian film has won an award, instead of trying to degrade it. Even for a director like James Cameroon, his movie Avatar 2 had lacked in certain aspects. So movie making is a hit or miss, n critics can have their varied opinions but at the end its the box office success that matters. RRR had a great BO success n now it's getting d recognition from Oscars.
I really dont understand why d movie industry is still being divided like that in the current times. Barriers hv been broken with Netflix n Amazon catering regional cinema of India with subtitles to audiences in other countries. People now have the ability to choose what they want to see irrespective of the language barrier.
