Yea that’s pretty much what it means. Without the dementia diagnosis there may have been hope of finding ways for him to communicate and maybe do an interview or even a cameo in a movie or TV show. But the dementia diagnosis makes things seem rather grim for him.

My heart goes out to his wife and children and all his loved ones. Can’t be easy watching someone you love slowly change from who they are into just a body and flesh with the actual person being lost somewhere forever.
