I do want to go the love story route but what I was thinking is that something she does or has been doing leads her to Abhay, and that something is related to what she is, if that makes sense

so you need to define what is she doing? Maybe try making list of why they should be together and currently what is stopping them from getting together. Then may be you can work backwards from there to define what she is doing and what she is
