Ashwin, Iyer clinch victory from the jaws of defeat

An unbeaten 71-run stand for the 8th wicket undid a five per from Mehidy

Bangladesh will rue their first innings batting performance, not just in this game but also in the last Test match. It's often the first innings that sets up games and their collapse on the first day really set them back. If they had batted a bit better, anything could have happened on these last few days. Credit to India's bowlers, they were outstanding right through the series and despite a debatable team selection for this game, the tourists ticked all the boxes with the ball. For Bangladesh, young Zakir made a mark in his first international series and there is some serious talent there to work with. Das continued on his merry ways and he seems to be in a real purple patch at the moment. He'd want to make a lot more of this form though, especially in Tests where 50s and 60s aren't enough for a specialist batter. Those need to be converted into centuries. For India, Pujara and Iyer stood tall while Pant continued to be the team's premier Test batter. The form of Rahul and Kohli is a major worry, particularly with a massive Australian series coming up at home.

11:18am: Handshakes and hugs around in the Indian camp, Bangladesh's fielders shake hands. Bear hugs from the coach to the two batters. Shakib too, shakes hands. Bangladesh put up a tremendous fight, coming back via Litton with the bat, later Mehidy with the ball. They got three wickets under thirty runs in the morning today. Pant's wicket seemed huge. Shakib and Mehidy were all over the batters. Ashwin came in to join the calm Shreyas, both batters rode out the storm, took scoring opportunities when they came along as time passed. The pitch offered spin and variable bounce but the batter scrapped through to a 2-0 series win.

India's Word Test Championship status is still on course, they are still on No. 2, with Australia to tour in February next year. They'll have many a question to answer, particularly about the top order. For now, they can rejoice in this hard-fought win.

Ashwin, Iyer clinch victory from the jaws of defeat. What a stunning partnership from Shreyas Iyer and R Ashwin. They put on 71, and a 16-run over from Mehidy Hasan finally seals it. Ashwin remains unbeaten on 42 while Iyer is unbeaten on 29.

Bangladesh will be disappointed but what a fight they put on in defence of 145. They will walk away with their heads held high.

Ashwin dropped on 1

How big a drop is that. Mehidy Hasan nearly had a sixth but an inside edge is put down by Mominul at short leg!

WICKET: Five for Mehidy!

Bangladesh are cock-a-hoop now! India have lost seven and Bangladesh are in sight of probably their biggest ever Test win. Axar is cleaned up by one fired in from round the wicket that grazes his pad before hitting the stumps.

WICKET: Pant falls!

Huge wicket for Bangladesh and it's that man Mehidy Hasan again. Rishabh Pant is struck on the back leg by one going straight on and is caught plumb in front. He doesn't review it. Bangladesh well on top now.

WICKET: Unadkat LBW

Shakib Al Hasan strikes early. No luck for Unadkat this time. He's hit on the back leg by an arm ball from Shakib and is quite plumb in front. The review does little to put the original decision in doubt. India sink further.

Close shave for Unadkat

Bangladesh take a review in the first over with Mehidy Hasan striking Unadkat on the pad just before the bat came ahead. The impact is in line but the ball is tracked to be just clipping leg stump. So it stays with the umpire's call.

Shakib Al Hasan | Bangladesh captain: Everyone contributed. We always knew that we had chance in Mirpur. Very good Test cricket, that's what the crowds love to see. Both teams were really good. Credit goes to Shreyas and Ashwin, they absorbed the pressure well and built a partnership. We had 70-odd runs to play with, just needed one wicket. We can think of several Ifs and buts, but I'm proud of the way we fought. That (all-round skills) is my job, unfortunately couldn't bowl much last game. We had our moments this year but hopefully, next year will be much better for Bangladesh.
