Am I the only one who didn’t see this movie as a selfless love but rather as a control freak who thought he had to stick his nose into everyone’s business?
The movie starts with Aman mocking Naina and getting her family and the whole neighborhood to join him because …. Because she was in a bad mood? Then there’s the typical KJo insensitivity about other cultures with the restaurant storyline, and typical KJo homophobia with the Saif SRK friendship arc. Although to be fair the homophobia in this one wasn’t nearly as bad as some of his other movies.
My biggest problem with this movie was him pushing Naina and Rohit together knowing she doesn’t love Rohit. Yes I get it, he can’t marry her because he’s dying and doesn’t want to be another person in her life to leave. But pushing her into marrying someone else was an extremely misogynistic move. Naina is an adult. If she decides to stay single then it’s her buisness. All Aman can do is refuse to marry her. How she spends the rest of her life is only and only up to her. But KJo is KJo and he thinks it’s always up to the man to decide how a girl should be happy.
Ohh, and Aman opening the neighbor’s mail and reading it was another dick move. First of all why are you opening people’s mail regardless of which Kapoor/Kapur it’s for. Second of all, opening someone else’s mail is a federal crime in the U.S. technically he could have gotten his ass kicked out of the country. One of those nosey aunties should have called the INS on him 😆.
KHNH is another problematic Karan Johar movie with SRK playing another benevolent jerk.
