This song is a haunting and lilting melody from Hemant Kumar sung by Lata. It's from the Film Kohra, the unacknowledged copy of Academy Award Best Picture Winner "Rebecca" by my all-time fav filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock.

Jiya Bekaraar is one of my absolute favorites!
I cannot with the obsession for this song.
I also cannot believe Lata's versatility. This style is on the lines of Shamshad Begum and Noor Jehan and at first glance you won't think it as Lata's pieces. But mannnnn the brilliance.
I have almost never seen the song being picked up my anyone in any reality show so this girl trying her hand at it was surprising but she did a decent job!

I love this song also. I agree 100 % about Lata. It seems like a simple tune but it's not easy to sing, especially when there's barely any time lag between the mukhda and antara - when did she pause for breath? The late 40s when she started and until the 60s no one could touch Lata. No one even came close. It would be remiss not to mention Shankar-Jaikishen's contribution. Their debut album. The songs are so brilliant.
So many many songs that never get picked on reality shows - not sure whether to rue it or celebrate it 😆

It's a conflicting ground 😆
What can be said about Lata's singing versatility? In the field of Indian film music, she is incomparable, unrivalled, and unique.
Here are a few quotes by Lata --

The following Lata Mangeshkar quotes only promote the idea of self-love but also empower people to pursue their dreams. These quotes are the best motivation for us and make us believe that we can achieve anything if we try hard enough.
One of the most famous Indian singers has said many wise things about life. Here are some of her best quotes:
I believe in one power, and that is the hand of God. I respect all religions.
From my experience and understanding, I believe money follows name and fame, while recognition calls for a huge amount of sacrifice. To get something, you have to lose something. That’s the rule of life.
~ Lata MangeshkarThe privileged classes today are bothered about petrol and diesel prices while the poor can’t afford two meals a day. I am a very small person, but I want us to think beyond personal and regional interests.
~ Lata MangeshkarI’ve always loved life, irrespective of all the ups and downs that have filled my journey.
~ Lata MangeshkarI have a fierce temper. I’ve mastered it over the years, but when I’m angry, no one can force me to do anything I don’t want to.
I wish I had given more time to learning classical singing.
~ Lata MangeshkarFor me, awards are a token of respect that people are giving me. So no matter how many awards I am receiving, I always feel emotional.
~ Lata MangeshkarI have decided that I won’t take up assignments that don’t interest me.I have been singing for the last 50 years, you know, so I deserve a break. Besides, there are talented singers around who can do justice to their work.
~ Lata MangeshkarI wouldn’t let a biopic be made on me. That’s because I don’t believe in them. I don’t like them.
~ Lata MangeshkarWhen I started out, there was so much work that I couldn’t think of doing anything else. I would go for recordings by 8.30 A.M., that, too, in trains. I used to come home at night. I was traveling alone everywhere.
~ Lata Mangeshkar
I missed out on my childhood. I had to work hard, but I was immediately given a place in playback.
~ Lata MangeshkarI appreciate the change associated with people’s growth, but I don’t like the changes in our lives. I came to Mumbai in 1945, so imagine my acceptance of the massive changes around. I have witnessed every kind of revolution.
~ Lata MangeshkarAs a singer, you have to bring the soul to the song.
~ Lata Mangeshkar
One has to be fully committed to one’s career. Otherwise, there’s no point.
~ Lata MangeshkarI think playback singing has a lot to do with voice acting. I would suggest to all the youngsters to understand the character, situation, and the story behind the songs. That is when you can add soul to the rendition which, I think, is missing in today’s music.
~ Lata MangeshkarThere are so many songs that I could not sing the way I wanted to. When such songs come on television or radio, I shut them off or leave the room.
~ Lata MangeshkarI feel I am a little unfit for the kind of music that is being made today. There is a big difference between what I sang earlier and what is being made now. I am not saying this music is bad, but there are too many beats.
~ Lata MangeshkarHer love for music, and the passion that she puts into it, was unparalleled. She was an inspiration to many people, especially women.⭐️
