He did Thugs of Hindustan which was not preachy. He failed bigtime.

He has done Ghajini, Fanaa, Dhoom 3, TOH, DCH, post Lagaan which are not preachy or message based films at all but total entertainers.

Where is pretentious cinema there? He has become more preachy and pretentious in onscreen persona though since Lagaan and spoken on social or political issues and made Satyameva Jayate type show.
