Thank you! I like her except for her palliness with Putin. I'm a liberal but can't stand some of the total lunacy these days. Course correction needed so some people come back to their senses. A lot of Republican men give me the hives, but that party is the only other reasonable option that exists.

Liz Truss did say she'd hit the ground running from day 1. She just forgot to mention that the economy would too.😆

Americans giving bhashan about the great America..when you can’t even walk around freely these days without the fear of getting shot by some psycho..and don’t even get me started about the whole abortion not being legal thing..yeah UK has its set of problems for sure which are amplified by a war, pandemic and Brexit..the next couple of years will be hard....but it’s not the most terrible country in the world to live in and I can safely walk in any part of UK without the fear of getting mugged or shot..and I do believe that Asians now have a real shot to make it hit here..since it’s meritocratic now due to Brexit..the infrastructure is there in place..pensioners have so much money they don’t know what to do with it..the retired folks here live a LAVISH life.. and believe me when I say I really don’t see anybody cutting down their spendings ..malls are full, restaurants are buzzing, people are travelling all the time..in and around me I really CANNOT see the whole noise about UK going bankrupt and people not having money to buy food or pay their bills..yeah sure but they do have money to go to Spain to play golf?? LOL..the issue is low productivity with the working class..I see most locals going on vacation like every other month..maybe Asians will change that culture..since we are used to a crazy toxic work culture ..??

I am American, and I agree America is going down the drain.

Abortion law comment needs to be clarified though. Most abortion in U.K. as far as I have read is limited to before 24 weeks, with exceptions after.

Most countries do this.

Most democratic run states in the U.S. allow abortion up to 3rd trimester.

yes the lack of effective gun control laws in the US is sad. But even with that, it might astonish you but the crime rates between the US and UK are similar. Check out the crime rates on the net. The other things you mentioned are anecdotal, and if you compare the UK with the USA, not at all supported by the facts.

it's strange also that you think brexit will lead to greater meritocracy. Actually the converse is true. The brexit supporters are generally the people who feel most threatened by immigrants (even educated immigrants) and want the old class structure to stay with whites on top. That's hardly a yearning for meritocracy. Even now, the tories are wanting to keep the professional Indians out on the new trade deal they are negotiating with India. These signs don't portend well for UK competitiveness going forward.

Progressive logic:

Let's pass a law!

(Let's not enforce it because feelings might get hurt. Do you seriously want to see Morgan Freeman in prison? Remember Shwashank Redemption?)

Crime rate going up?

Let's pass more laws.

(But let's not enforce it)

Ooh... I know what we can do. We can take away weapons from people who've never actually broken laws. That will fix the crime problem!

Gosh darn it! Aren't we smart?! Now let's tell other countries how to manage their economy and social problems so they can be great like us.

the noise about abortion/ Roe being shot down is more symbolic hype than substance. In either case, before and after Roe, it is the states that controlled funding for abortion. And that's not changed. Devolving power to the states to set their own abortion laws is theoretically a more democratic thing to do- let the people decide. (ps- i am for Roe, but that's besides the point)

even still, when it comes to abortion, the laws are not targeting Indians. There's nothing there that discriminates against Indians. In fact, as the group that's the most well-heeled in the US, Indians are the least affected by Roe getting overturned. It just makes life harder for the poor who might not have as much access to abortion in their state and will have to travel out.

the discussion also started with upward economic mobility for desis. .. on which front, the UK totally sucks relative to the US. 😃

Liz Truss will be entitled to claim up to ÂŁ115,000 per year from the taxpayer for the rest of her life once she leaves office, despite likely being one of the shortest-serving prime ministers in history.

The Public Duties Cost Allowance allows former prime ministers to claim back money toward the cost of maintaining activities in public life.

Former PMs have claimed back millions through the scheme since it was set up in 1991 following the resignation of Margaret Thatcher.https://t.co/eoG12LvCJT

For me, spending 80 plus billion on Ukraine when American taxpayers are hurting is crazy.

There are lots more.

I'd first want to fix the economy and crime and secure the border and make sure education is on track.

Will worry about abortion once I'm sure of a paycheck.

FYI. Supreme Court already ruled on gay marriage. Abortion is legal in all states, restricted to early months in some. Not sure where you're getting the *ban* from.

I haven’t seen democrats advocating for pedophiles. Not sure where you are getting that from. Why did they cut off oil production at home? Abortion is banned in some states even in case of rape, incest, etc since conception and where it doesn’t exist yet the republicans have said they want to ban abortion in all cases. Women and medical professional are prosecuted for it. The 10 year old child who was raped and pregnant in Ohio had to travel to another state to get abortion. Then cases were filed against the medical professional who provided abortion. Some Republican have said if they win the house and senate they will apply for nationwide anti-abortion law everywhere. Conservative Judge who was the main one behind overturning Roe vs Wade have also said to next try for marriage equality meaning gay marriage. Some republicans are trying for banning birth control and at the very least limiting it. Some republicans are also trying to legalize child marriage and lower marriage age for minors in some states. https://www.texastribune.org/2022/06/24/roe-wade-clarence-thomas-contraception-same-sex-marriage/ and many more.

As for Ukraine spending, I don’t have any doubt Republicans would’ve done the same if there was a Republican president given their history. At the end of day military complex and cia would do what’s in the interest of USA. Republicans are only complaining now because it’s happening under a democrat president. Both parties if one says it’s day then the other would say it’s night just to spite one another. I remember when Trump wanted to pull out of Afghanistan many republicans supported it saying it’s good and democrats were against it. But as soon Biden did republicans were bashing Biden while democrats were supporting it and saying the same what republicans used to say about how our money is going there and it’s waste. I don’t like the aid either, but now how big of a threat China and Russia are to US, it’s understandable why US is doing what it’s doing.
