It's more of a celebration of life honestly. KC doesn't have to be only about the husbands, but also about the women getting together. This has been going on for over 20 years.

Edit: I think I can explain it better. Basically all these women usually have had their perceptions of themselves altered by their husbands, ie Sunita is "Anil's wife" - even in the case of Raveena, marriage changed her career path. That makes sense in Indian society, so KC can be an opportunity for women to spend time together balancing their family lives.
