That's an interesting data, Birdie 👏 Thanks for sharing. Couldn't feel more proud for Kishore da.
BTW Filmfare awards are given to honour artistic and technical excellence, not mass appeal. They are voted on by both the public and a committee of experts. But let's not go into the details of the awards 😆 I am not looking for a debate nor wanting to compare one legend with another legend. All of the singers you mentioned are legends in their own right.
My curiosity was more about why you thought (my interpretation of your previous post, forgive me if I interpreted wrong) variations are more important for female singers than male singers for mass appeal? If I consider the number of filmare awards (using the same yardstick as you), then in the millennial generation both Shreya Ghoshal and Arijit Singh have got 6 of them (highest among the millennial singers) and both exhibit interesting variations in their singing. Probably the musical taste of the current demography is leaning more and more towards variations. For a singer of any gender.
Anyways, let's stop spamming the thread with our discussion and return to the topic of the thread. Or the TM will kick us out for spoiling the thread 🤣
Can't wait to hear more of Lataji's songs from everyone
filmfare awards cant be too divorced from popular appeal- the committee that votes along with the public would lose all credibility with the audience if that were the case for too long. That said, I am also reading that the awards have lost their cachet in recent times, given that there are so many other organizations handing out awards. That was not the case back then... Anyway, let's see how many of Arijit's songs are remembered 20 years from now. People can literally remember 100s of Kishore Da's songs for example!
my second point was that variations don't seem to have mattered much when it came to the success of the male playback singers. That was certainly true back then. And even now, for someone like Arijit, while he has variations, I dont think that has been key to his success. It's more his ability to go very high... which seems to be the key requirement for most hindi songs these days. Males singing higher, females singing lower than their counterparts of the earlier gen.
i wouldn't worry about spamming. That's normal in most threads. 😆 Anyway, I am done with this. Beyond this, will just be rehashing the same stuff.
