There is one thing I do not get about olden day women use to look like or a queen would look like or grace. It's people who are romanticizing or visualizing that women in those era were beauty (which by the way might be different POV what beauty was for them in those days, which we do not know). So according to this forum there are no possibilities of queen's to be plain looking.

To me yes any actress can play in period drama even women like Alia who might not be beauty queen can still play a character based in the past era. Like she pulled it off in Gangubai, her best performance till date.

So no we do not need only Aishwariya Rai or DP to play queen roles.

In a way yes at least Alia is not monotone like Deepika.

I disagree that Alia is annoying. She’s not annoying. She’s a terrible person. Putting down others, mocking others, snatching others work, going after men who are in relationship and being a homewrecker isn’t just annoying. She and RK perfectly deserve one another. Both fit one another with how terrible human beings they are.

You know what, you right. They did the world a favor by getting married, saved women and men having to deal with these two.

DP is also drop-dead gorgeous. She has the grace to carry period films that Aloo lacks. And became successful without the most biggest production company hunting for good scripts for her. Yes, maybe the scripts she got were never as good as Alia's. I would any day prefer DP in "Finding Fanny." To Alia in Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhan, Badri ki Dulhania, Kalank, SOTY, Dear Zindagi, or Bramashtra.

From Zeenat Aman to Manushi chillar, in every era there were actress with modeling background. Bollywood was always interested to cast good looking models. Deepika was undoubtedly gorgeous during her modeling days . Just like her ,people forget that she debuted in a kannada movie and Wendell Rodricks a fashion designer introduced her to Malaika Arora and thus she got chance in music albums and it eventually resulted in her movie entry. Alia with her looks would never pass these rounds of selection process. Good looks is not just a bonus but a mandatory criteria to get entry in Bollywood . The admirers of Nepokids forget that except for Alia almost all the so called average looking acting talents gets chance either in offbeat movies or in low budget movies .Also in the case of outsiders no one will bother to write articles like Shabana Azmi met the actress in bathrob as she couldn't wait till the bedroom door is open to praise the exceptional performance .

I would say even DP doesn’t suit those queen roles. I might sound a little biased here but only Aish is charming and graceful enough to pull off such roles, I loved her in JA ❤️ Another actress that comes to mind is Anushka Shetty. She was beautiful as the royal princess in Bahubali.

OMG so true! How do people just assume that all women or men in past centuries were good looking? All the royal weren't either.

Imagine thinking everybody in a certain decade or century was beautiful looking.

I hope people know that Akbar wasn't like how HR looks😂

Alia is very talented, no doubts about that. She has improved so much since her SOTY days. Even if she was given opportunities, she made good use of them and did full justice to her characters.

I mean there was a certain body language and poise older day actresses like Waheeda Rehman had. So does Deepika as a model. It suits the aura of a period film. Alia lacks it. It showed in Kalank. Particularly in the dance sequence she appeared clumsy with lazy body language. Thus that was not one of her good performances per se.

But to each it’s own !

I think that’s the point a lot of people are trying to make… an outsider wouldn’t have landed a role in SOTY and after that lukewarm debut they wouldn’t have gotten tailor made opportunity after opportunity to improve themselves until they could do justice to their characters
