The Barfi Effect!
I will continue from where I left yesterday. Reflections!
The episodes had a few parallels.
V’s dream today is paving way for his actions that he will regret. The dream is a parallel to the one he had during remarriage. That one caused him to lie that Sai will not pursue her career. Yet it is different. Then it was his understanding of how Sai would she would react and his fear that she will choose her career over him and leave. But today’s dream was a fear arising from his own reflection. He is married to P, someone who had harmed Sai. So, he sees the very possibility with JM-Sai. And this gave rise to anger, which makes him ignore the obvious. For once, he didn’t register P is here, the fact Sai would know he is married to P. Nor did he catch Sai calling P Mrs. Chavan. The fear that Sai would have forgiven JM like he has forgiven P. It is him..it is his guilt that he has done something which probably he shouldn’t have. It is just that we refuse to accept that guilt. V is doing just that with the justifications he has.
The way he held her hand, seeking answers to relieve him of his misery. That his worst fears don’t come true. Ironical, how he brushes his own status which has been well confirmed. Because there are only doubts and no confirmations on Sai’s status.
Sai is stronger. V is burning in his jealousy and insecurity. But Sai has risen up. She refuses to go down with such a big blow on her. Cutting herself completely off from her past, she neither seeks clarifications, nor is willing to give any. With no relations, there are no rights. While she may be hurting, she is firm on her stand.
P was cleverly probing into Sai and her stand. Questions around JM, Savi were all part of this to understand Sai’s current situation and equations. That statement “I’am genuinely happy to see you alive” Jhooti, abhi thodi der pehle to dar rahi thi ki Sai ke aane se tera kya hoga.
Anyways, Sai reads P like anything. Without even asking, Sai gave her the answer that she was seeking. She is Ex-wife, and P may not fear her. As she has nothing to do with V now.
Mohit showed how thankless he is. Ugte suraj ko salam. P gave him the power and position, and now he is her bhakt. Completely forgotten are those days when he was denied food in the very same house and Sai was the one who stood up for him. When his own parents pulled him down but Sai always spoke up for him. That’s how fickle loyalty has become.
The way he addressed Sai when V was calling out her name. “Sai”. Not Vahini or tai. Only Sai. Later he did switch…old habits. But he didn’t even have a normal decency to ask her how she has been.
I have been dreading the parallels we will have in CN. But the first one I was expecting was the hospital one. And it happened today. But gladly it didn’t work the way I had seen it then. Sai comes in to check on V and recalls how P had not allowed her to meet him after the landmine accident. But here P is the wife, yet she was forced to call Sai to tend to Virat. Small mercies of Karma.
Harini was giving vibes of rebel Sai. But somewhere did not come out as so fierce. She finally did give in. Sai would never have. Another parallel to Pulkit lunch episode with Sai switched with Harini.
While we are seeing a team shift, Shivani today seemed like she still cherished Sai somewhere. Not directly, but she does not seem like really taken over by P. But it is too early to say.
Coming to the Barfi Effect.
I’m not sure how many of you have watched the movie “Barfi”. Barfi (RK) is deaf-mute, and Jhilmil (PC) autistic. Shruti (Illeana) is Barfi’s ex. Towards the end of the movie there is a scene where Barfi along with Shruti is searching for Jhilmil and finally ends up at the place where she is hiding. While she initially does not want to meet him, as he leaves dejected, she calls after him from the window. But Barfi is walking away as he can’t hear her. This scene shows is powerful for not just for the helplessness of love, or fate, but it focuses the inner turmoil of Shruti and she comes out shining from it. Shruti still loves Barfi, and this was her opportunity to separate Barfi and Jhilmil forever. She is the only one who can see Jhilmil and Barfi, their love and their need to be together. She chooses their love and happiness over hers. She is the one who tells Barfi that Jhilmil is there calling out to him.
Barfi is Sai, Jhilmil is V. V is completely blindfolded in his anger. His own character, his weaknesses and insecurities are not helping him. In all this he refuses to acknowledge anything that rational in his vision. He is behaving like a man who lacks the understanding of a grown up mature person. A child-man.
Sai has decided to cut herself from her past, and move on. She expects no justifications nor is she willing to give any. With no relationship between them, she refuses to give him the right to question. She is neither willing to give any answers not is willing to hear any.
But there is one person who knows the love that exists between them. The knows the block that is stopping them to reach out to each other. And is capable and has the power to remove that hindrance, but at the cost of losing the one she wants. “P”. But is she willing to sacrifice? Shruti’s love for Barfi was questioned in the beginning of the movie when she leaves him, but she proves it with her selfless act of uniting Barfi and Jhilmil.
But will P be Shruti (as in the movie)?
The precap is kind of similar to that scene. But P’s face showed the shock which could turn to hope, a breakthrough that she has always waited for.
Coming to something debatable. Please read this with an open mind. People who know me are aware that I have detested V’s character for the longest time now. So this part is in no manner pro-v. It is simply an analysis.
Moor had posted something on this topic and a few of us had some good discussion around this. The fact that V’s integrity and love for Sai is now solely relying on the physical aspect. The fact that society sees physical loyalty as the biggest form of commitment to someone.
Just want you all to take a step back and think about this. Conjugal relationship with P comes later. But firstly, does V want to move on or does not want to move on. It is not the physical aspect, it is whether someone wants it or not. And there lies the answer we are seeking about loyalty beyond physical relationship. V does not want to move on. He is not willing to let go off his memories with Sai and he does not want a chance at a life with someone else in her place. It is his willingness to move on. He has the choice, but he does not want it.
This MU is a means to challenge that mental state of his. Till now he refused to move on from Sai. He was not willing to. But now knowing that she is alive and moved on, places him under circumstances that can make him go weaker in his resolve. He loved her, but is his love dependent on reciprocation. His love for her is challenged now.
@ Sadhika – This one is specifically for you. You wanted to see how V can prove his loyalty to her. This is it. I know he has screwed up and I don’t see any hopes for this guy to become worthy of Sai. But the fact that what will give some trust to Sai that he loved only her and could never move on from her. It is this. Circumstances are more cunning that people in general and the ones that they create. Whether you bow down and surrender or come unscratched determines how strong your determination or your commitment is. V's love not surrendering to circumstances.
But this also poses a bigger question and threat to V’s further degradation. Now combining the “Barfi effect” here. If he in his anger pushes himself to move on with P, he is fully drowned. But what will be worse is P realizing that V is forcing himself and she is nothing but just a means to get over Sai. She means nothing to him and is easily replacable with someone else. And hence decides to stop him. This will become the sacrificial act of P like Shruti in Barfi. Like RK confirms to Emon that Rono was always a one woman man. But here the flaw is the situation was compromised. If P had not stopped, V would have gone ahead. So where is V’s love here. It is only P’s sacrifice. Killing off V, reducing Sai to a urchin and elevating P to a selfless Saint. Is this love really that pure as it is made out and worth the whole tale?
Apologies for the last part. But thought I could share my thoughts and get more perspectives.
When Sai said Virat sir aap mere pehle aur akhri pyaar ho, she meant it and she stuck to it in her words and action.
Now Virat, even though he loves Sai, what does he have to show? That he did not consider patru wife in true sense? They had beds separate, alright but they have been cohabiting for a long time now.
Now, in the show, they can’t even reverse what they have shown. The only solace would be Virat not giving a damn about Patralekha and still trying to make amends with Sai.
And I don’t care about his marital status with Patralekha. We have watched so many illogical things in the show. This will be atleast worth watching
