This is the seventh time the show has had to decide whether to write out a character or recast, right?
First, they wrote an "Abhimanyu is missing" storyline so that Sameer Paranjape could spend time with his baby.
Best handled: When Dhananjay Wable left the role of Sarjerav, the show simply recast with Umesh Bolke, and the transition was smooth.
Worst handled: When Atisha Naik left the role of Indumati, the character was graphically murdered, Taramati was gratuitously set ablaze on screen, and after months of evidence-gathering, somehow Daulat's life is back to normal.
Fumbled: When Pramitee Narke couldn't play Hema, the show ...
1) did a temporary recast with Sharvari Pendharkar for months ...
2) wrote out the character by sending Hema to jail ...
3) brought back the original actress with Hema being impossibly pregnant.
(Has anyone else observed what I have? Hema's belly got smaller and she moves with less difficulty than a few months ago!)
Scrambled: When Poojaa Purandare left the role of Kamini, the show ...
1) wrote out the character by having Daulat kidnap her and hold her hostage ...
2) recast with Shweta Naik, explained as impossible plastic surgery while competing in a beauty pageant and never being kidnapped ...
3) reiterated that the kidnapping actually happened.
The show also wrote out Aditi Dravid's character Nandini. She left, needing mental health care after Daulat forcibly married her with the intention to rape and impregnate her. A few weeks later, she was suddenly getting married and dropped the case under pressure from her in-laws. Then they brought back Nandini, saying that her unnamed husband is fine with her spending all her time away from home. What kind of domineering in-laws does she have?
So, let's say that Sameer Paranjape's absence was unavoidable and the creative team didn't know how long it would be. Their priority should have been to recapture the magic of the original concept: Abhimanyu is sincere about fitness and Latika knows how to get work done. Build that academy, make Latika an MLA or Collector in charge of the town, and tell some positive stories! Find a talented actor who needs a lead role, and give him the chance to be seen as Abhimanyu until Sameer Paranjape returns.
Separating the lead couple with presumed death and taking a leap might be the stupidest decision possible for a show already ruined by showing us Indumati's murder ... Abhimanyu beaten in jail for Taramati's murder ... Hema's pregnancy and Kamini's plastic surgery ... Daulat back to normal ... Abhimanyu tricked into handing over farmlands - no, wait, his own house ... Abhimanyu beaten in jail again for attempted rape ...
All of this relentless undeserved suffering at the hands of villains who lack any logical motivation is monotonous! Stories about characters pursuing their goals, such as training for a new job or entering a contest, can be exciting. Why not create stories driven by the lead characters?
