Has anyone here read Ponniyin Selvan? Mani Ratnam is making a movie out of it and I thought I should finally read it because I have always heard so much praise for it. I downloaded it on Kindle (its free here!!) and I am hooked!! The translation is quite good and from the very first word I was transported to the Chola era where the novel is set. You get to learn so many things about TN, Tamilian culture, the geography, history of the land everything. And the story flows smoothly literally carrying you in its flow. I am still on chapter 6 but loving it. Would definitely recommend it to everyone.

I wanted to check about Ponniyin Selvan too after looking at all the promotion of P.S.movie.

Who's the author of the book you're reading? Thanks for your recommendation.

We were never taught about the Chola empire and I don't know anything about it.

Unfortunately I haven't read it, I haven't read historical fiction in a very long time including the ones written by Amish.

I am currently reading Jennete McCurdy's memoir 'I'm Glad My Mother Died'. She was the girl who played Sam in the tween show ICarly, that I used to follow as a kid. At first I was shocked why anyone would wish their mother dies and be happy about it. But now I am just horrified about how much parental abuse she was forced to tolerate, her eating disorder, and the truth behind the entertainment industry for children. Some of my most loved shows are a painful memory to those who lived them 🥺

Thanks for posting your review. I read this ebook a couple days back on my flight to Mumbai. Quite riveting and I read from start to finish in one go. Disney is an evil corporation and their shows, amusement parks and the staff have written several horror stories they've endured while working for them. I'll never be able to watch iCarly the same way I did earlier. Also, the lengths to which parents can go to get their kids to work in entertainment industry is nauseating to read. I was reminded of Hansika Motwani and Sridevi while reading about the parental abuse mentioned in this book.

True. Thanks for sharing your thoughts too. Their lived reality is so terrible that I cannot help but feel even more respect that they chose to tell their story and warn us about all of the things we fail to see when watching a show 🥺

Celluloid and TV programming is a dirty business.
