I want to disagree.. but maybe you guys are right... because I really don't understand the attractive factor for this show.. I really don't understand why TRP aunties like this...

Maybe dumming down the characters is the new way to go

But I always thought.. the more complex the character, more the discussions around it.. Series like breaking bad, got etc are still famous because of their complex and multi layered characters...

Forget the west.. In India, Sarabhai V/s Sarabhai is still relevant because all tthe charcters were not just stereo types.. yes... they had their own quirks.. but they were layered.. And also crisp writing.. which made it a classic compared other comedy..9

Forget comedy.. let's discuss Drama

Series like Ek hazaron mein meri behna hai (I only saw one year of that series) or the old Balika Vadhu (where Dadisa who was the image of an old traditionalist who slowly but gradually had much more flexible attitude towards change) or Tere liye (where the only villain was kind of sympathetic character)

These 3 shows had nice complex characters.. they were not dumb downed at any point of their character arcs..

I only saw some shows when I was little.. so I only know these.. But My point is these shows were running successfully becuase of their characters right?

Even now, we discuss them right.. Maybe the audience tastes changed..
