Same with PD.

Apparently these contracts have been sold.

Will update if I have more news.

Is that good news or bad?

This may be true. For the last few months their IG tagline carried "exclusively managed by... " I checked just now and it is gone - just descriptions of themselves.

I have a feeling that Choklate Pi may have taken over the management under his Willy and Choklate firm. Probably the announcement will come after the Netherlands tour or some time around it.

Usually the Top 5 contestants are under exclusive contract with Sony, starting immediately after the Finale. It expires just before the next season starts.

This ensures that they work specifically for Sony...its basically how record labels sign artists and keep them, irrespective of whether they use them or not. Hence, these contestants were made mentors in SS too...the same thing happened previously when Salman, Nitin etc were mentors.

The main problem with such contracts is that the singer is unable to perform anywhere without the consent of the company. So they can't make their own decisions. Like Ankush sang for Sony's shows regularly (the title track of Ishaaron Ishaaron Mein and I think a version of Gayatri Mantra too).

Himesh must have found a way since these guys since regularly for him. Its these contracts which usually affect their careers...because when you're tied down for a year and don't get the chance to sign, then people tend to forget.

Fortunately for Arunita and group, their season came during the pandemic so the number of viewers were much more. No other season has managed to get so much attention...even though personally I feel Season 10 was the bomb.

Them changing management shouldn't cause much problem because of how popular they are. Chokolate Pi usually manages all these ex contestants once their contract is done. Even Vibhor, Priyanshi, Adriz etc are managed by him. The only one who seems to have left CP's group is Ankush...he's handled by Personal Artists Management which has celebrities like Aditya Narayan, Shriram Iyer, Pritam, Mahalaxmi Iyer etc.

But it is a cycle...now Season 13 winner and Top 5 will take the position that Season 12 contestants were holding.

I feel it is not as watertight. Idol 10 contracts, earlier, were for a year and lapsed at the end of term. Even when Nitin and Salman were in SS1 they may have been out of contract. Season 11 had six signers (including a non-finalist). Their contract ran for nearly 2 years with Sony Talent Studio Next (or whatever it was called) and the top 3 went to UK in July 2021 (they were signed in Feb/March 2020). I know that Ankona's contract got over in Feb 2022 when she took part in a Zee Bangla show.
In fact one of the big differences of being under Sony contract and being outside is that competing channels cannot access the singers when they are under Sony's contract.
Of the current lot (Il12), they initially signed 10 singers. In June this year they cut the list down to 7 and parked the talents under Sony Pictures Networks (SPN) and not TSN. Other new additions (from Idol Marathi etc. were also signed under the SPN banner).
As of now there is no evidence that any other singer (except PD and Arunita) having moved out of Sony Pictures Network. So, this is a move that affects only those two.
It is possible that something may have triggered the release. Could be the litigation with Octopus, or maybe these 2 are preparing to appear for another channel who have bought the rights, or if rumour is right, they have simply been bought out by people/coy who see a long-term earning potential in the deal.

Their contracts were renewed / extended for at least 1 more year in early June. You will see posts on Suraj Rosario's IG on 6th June 2022 announcing exclusive management - one post for each artist. Sawai, Ashish, SMP, Sayli, Pawandeep and Arunita. Since then, their IG tag lines carried "Exclusively managed by... " etc. All of them still do, except Pawandeep, Arunita and Sawai. For Sawai I don't know if he ever added that tag line, but Pawandeep and Arunita definitely did - the same text as what is seen on Sayli's tagline right now :

"Exclusively mgd by Talent Studio Next- Div of Sony

For bookings, call - Mgr: Suraj Rosario @scrosario

9820012547

talent studionext tv"

So something has changed for these two. I think (as mentioned above) that CP could be the one who bought their contracts.

Or, if they have been marked as rising stars, perhaps some big agency.

Having said this, I also agree with what RS has said above - the announcement mentioned SPN and not TSN.

If you get more information, please do share here. Would be interesting - hoping that it is something for the better, something that will propel them forward.

@bold: Then this is case. Quite a bold move considering breaking contracts isn't really encouraged 😆

Its possible they know their brand value and know that they need to branch out of Sony.

Others must have either had a contract extension or chances are that they move on to a different agency. Unlike songs, singers are signed on, they can't be bought in terms of rights.

@bold: I've heard they are...there are many people around me irl who work in the entertainment industry (management side specially) so its a known fact that contracts limit the person. Ofc Sony's contract will prevent them working on different channels...thats a given. But apparently there's more to it. We wouldn't know until we saw their contract lol.
