Woohooo. Happy Independence Day to India!!!! May every Indian understand the meaning of true Independence and start valuing it instead of wasting it on useless things which will drag the country down!
Thank you. ďżźđ¤
It's heartening to see wishes from non-Indians as well.
Could you speak a little on your connections with India here? People you know, people you've met, Indian foods you've tasted, etc. That'd be lovely.

Youâre welcome and Iâd love to. đ¤
Since childhood, Iâve had a very close connection with India. My parents are from Afghanistan and I was born/raised in Australia. Being a neighbouring country, Bollywood has always been a huge influence for Afghans. More than 80% of us know and understand the language because of our love towards the Indian culture. My parents escaped the war and lived in Delhi for two years. They loved it there, especially my mum. Mum always said that the people were so kind and respectful, and that she was hesitant to leave when they got sponsored to Australia.
I grew up listening to Hindi songs, dancing to Ek Do Teen as a toddler. I loved Bollywood and the Indian culture so much, especially the vibrant colours and festive celebrations. I learned the language from exposure alone. I donât know how or when I began to understand Hindi ⌠it just felt like Iâve always known it. This helped me bond and form more closer friendships with my Indian classmates at school. I easily got along with people from India as I always felt a sense of belonging and apnapan with them. On a few occasions Iâve even helped translate to non-English speaking Indians, and they always encouraged me, never once laughed at my broken and heavily accented Hindi. Such beautiful and kind people. â¤ď¸
I hope to visit India one day. Itâs been a lifelong dream to finally experience the beautiful culture after watching it from a TV screen for the past 30 years. Happy Independence Day once again. Thank you for being such an integral part of my life. Sharing a song I love.
