That's actually not correct. Karan asked Ranbir to ask Imtiaz to cast Alia. Ranbir was pretty up-front about it on the Highway press tour. It's not exactly a secret 😆

It's a pleasant watch, though patchy. Should have shaved off another 10-15 minutes. The ending also ruins the broader mood of the film. I think it is one of the first Imtiaz films since JWM where both characters are balanced and it isn't lopsided in one's favor.

Alia has basically got whatever she wants so early in her career even at the cost of another actress role. Of course she had KJO on her side so the film makers couldn’t directly offend him.
