Gashmeer Mahajani is spoilt for choice, with offers pouring in from all mediums. However, the actor is very clear about what he wants to do, and only picks projects after he and the makers are on the same page about the script and the direction in which the project is headed.

“There have been experiences in the past where I didn’t pay much attention to the person making the content. I just chose the content. Later on, you start having creative differences, and you struggle through the [filming of] project. I don’t want to go through that thing ever again. [So] I am quite blunt now, I’m straight forward. Once I read the script, if I have 10 negative points to talk about, then I tell the director immediately. And if you want to work with me, we have to rectify it. If we are not on the same page, it is better to part ways rather than being unhappy and making the project,” Mahajani elaborates.

Being certain and clear about your opinion does lead to misconceptions being formed about the artiste. Actors are often prone to being tagged tantrum kings when they take a stand for themselves. Ask if he has ever experienced anything similar, and the Sarsenapati Hambirrao actor shares, “All the gossipmongers who haven’t worked with me say that I throw tantrums. It’s like Chinese whisper... I’ve never really put my foot down. I don’t put my foot down, let’s call it constructive confrontation and collaboration. If you speak to the people I work with, they will never say that I throw a tantrum. I never throw a tantrum. If there’s a problem in the scene, I’ll point it out and give you a solution right there.”

Mahajani rose to extreme popularity courtesy his TV show Imlie. He reveals how the show came to him during the time when the entire world was lacking work. “When I took Imlie, I couldn’t afford to say no to it. I had no choice but to take TV. Because of Covid there was no work happening and it was the first thing that came to me,” Mahajani who quit the show earlier this year, shares.

Yes agree on tabu NM. Not worth the hype that it is her best or one of her best- just that she stood out from the rest in this movie.. for some reason I didn’t expect they will go the ghost and aatma route - I thought it will be another version of mental disorder route - but still enjoyable for a one time watch.

NM have you watched the original Malayalam version with mohanlal and Shobhana - still one of my favorite movies to watch and shobhana even received the national award for her performance i think.

Yes I have seen all versions almost shibhana was just class apart and after seeing that the hindi version feels total trash..

Dunno, but mujhe toh ismein arrogance nahin dikhi....but yeah I get your point that him saying it in such a straightforward manner ki I want to work the way that makes sense for me will be taken as "arrogance"....lol people prefer vague diplomatic/appeasement waali statements - woh automatically "humble" lagne lagti hain....lol but koi seedhe seedhe bol de ki I disagree with the content toh "tantrum"😆. Tantrum would be him trying to DICTATE how things are done....he has clearly said that he gives his opinion and suggested solutions when he doesn't agree with the content but he's not dictating anything to anyone....his solution is to simply part ways then rather than making each other unhappy with continued disagreements in the work environment. Mujhe toh practical hi lagaa yeh approach.

But yeah I guess for such an approach to work, you have to expect that other people will deal with you in good faith like you are doing....lol yeh toh thoda idealism expect kar liya GM saab ne😆. Moral of the story for him basically is that he can't just say yes to the content, he has to know what kind of PEOPLE he's working with or they will make your life hell later down the line for any form of disagreement. You can't expect people to be mature about disagreements and talk them through.....that much has been very clear from this entire Imlie experience. You either have to be a mindless robot like ST and FK to keep enacting whatever shit the script is or you will be slandered/smeared for having a voice to speak out against the brainless content. GM has clearly paid heavily for the latter even though he was initially led to believe by Atif and gang that he will be allowed to approach the work as per his sensibilities. The moment he raised objections over the depraved content and the butchering of his character, he started to be smeared by this lot.

Adi is Adi today all thanks to GM....it just keeps getting reinforced that if Atif gang had their way, Adi would be a one dimensional loser since day one....but GM added all the nuances, the thehraav, the CLASS, the sharaafat to Adi's character even in such a complicated/grey story. Atif and gang bas cinematography karte reh gaye but Adi mein soul saara GM ne hi daala hai.
