they are known to have pretty cool tailored blouses and very different designs. I randomly found some design videos on youtube on them.
even in terms of sari, there are different ways to tie it and the length actually varies. so the modern version with its 6 meter and the way of tying only came up in the last 150 years or so. if you see maharashtra, gujarat, there are different ways of tieng. in some communities, the sari is not 6 meters but 9 meters. in assam, it is a two piece garment (known as mekhela) and the weaves are very different.
the modern version of sari design weave (pallu, zari & border) is often attributed to rukmini devi (known as kalakshetra sari) -- she pioneered the reivival of arts, dance and handlooms.
