This show takes a lot of tired tropes and adds a twist to it to make it more interesting. I'm kinda sad that the directing and acting are so poor because the script actually had some potential. It could have been more entertaining but it's been bland despite so much stuff happening.
I think the writer had Aimen as a foil for Areej. Aimen is an orphan, but she grew up well loved and looked after by Affan's parents. While Areej may have parents but they're mostly useless. Aimen doesn't appreciate what she has, while focusing on how Sikander and the whole family had wronged her, she forgets how Affan and his mom supports her. There was even a scene where she tells Areej to value her parents because in the end they are the most worthy and loyal (something to that meaning), which was said in front of the mom. While Areej values her parents even when they're so unworthy, and she paid her dues to them by getting married to save the house.
Ahhhh, I kinda wish Hania was in here instead. I was blown away by how she portrayed Hala in Mere Humsafar, she showed the trauma and vulnerability of someone that has put up with years of abuse. Even when she was "brave" and standing up for herself, you could see that deep down she was scared af and I see Areej in a similar light. I can't imagine Areej not being scared of Sikander and Seema, the two people that made her life hell.
Sadly Sehar has none of that nuance, she just plays Areej in a scene by scene scenario, cry in this scene, act brave in that scene, but there's no continuity in her portrayal of the character. That's why it feels kinda confusing to watch her sometimes because how can she act so brave here but be so passive there? đ
