Assumptions and more assumptions

Anyways, just bcuz I asked do Bollywood stars look Indian doesn’t mean I said Indians can’t be pretty. It’s more abt Bollywood not representing what kinda pretty are Indians. This sentence may sound confusing to you but let me explain. Most Indians are pretty with brown skin and desi features, most Bollywood actors are pretty with light skinned and non-desi features.

how does this thread show our internalized skin-tone biases? On contrary, this thread has lead to ppl talking abt how Bollywood doesn’t represent brown skinned ppl. Bollywood has an internalized skin tone bias that’s why we don’t see brown skinned in many lead roles

Indians are diverse, there is no such thing as a North-Indian look or South-Indian look. Yes, there is difference of ancestry, South-Indians have Dravidian ancestry, and North-Indians are a result of a mixed race from Cental Asia, and North-East India has Sino-Tibetean ancestry but the whole fair-thing is wrong. Sridevi and Rekha are both South-Indians and are pretty fair and on the other hand you have Ajay Devgn who is a Punjabi but is pretty dark-skinned.

The main leads of India look very Indian - including Hrithik Roshan. Believe it or not, they are men like that in India. It is HW that stereotypes the whole dark-skinned, malnourished image of India. India is a big country with diverse races, colours etc.

I hate those foreign reaction channels were people are like this person does not look Indian, first go visit India and see how diverse then comment.

Sridevi and Rekha shouldn’t be used an example of fair skinned South Indians cuz it’s pretty apparent they bleached there skin. Rest I agree

After years of watching them onscreen, It will be hard to look at the Khans at this age as anything but as old familiar uncles who have belonged to us for decades.

But when they started out, a very young Amir Khan, Rishi Kapoor, SRK, Saif, Imran Khan (Pakistani PM), and even Salman Khan all looked like your regular everyday guys that could easily belong in an Afghan town. Apparently, most of them have ancestors who are Pathans who came and settled in India. Srk and Salmans' fathers are Pathans but married Hyderabadi and Marathi women. So their dads look more foreign than them.

Amir Khan has Pathan roots that can be traced to the city of Herat, Afghanistan.

SRK whose GrandfatherJan Muhammad Khan was a Pathan from Afghanistan.

Saif descendants of ‘Barech’ Pathans .

Salman Khan whose ancestors are ‘Alakozai’ Pathan who migrated from Afghanistan to India in the mid-1800s and settled in Madhya Pradesh, India.

I could be completely wrong about all of this. But hey, this is what the internet tells me.

Even with the Kapoor sisters, Karisma has taken more after the British side of the family. Kareena to me looks like one of those Afghan mountain girls they show on the National Geographic channel all the time. You can spot a lot of them with green/ blue colored eyes just like hers.

I don't think having a non-South Asian ancestry is anything to be proud of. If you think about it, if they all didn't migrate to India and find fame and money, they would all be jobless and poor in Afghanistan which isn't a good place to be in right now in history.

Srk, Aamir and Salman look pretty desi too me. Tho saif looks middle eastern. Kareena can pass of as Punjabi but karishma has always looked racial ambiguous. She’s actually very unique looking

Most Indian actors look Indian. Kareena has Punjabi features and is still very Indian. Hrithik and Ash look Indian in pics with their families.

Ash comes from south Karnataka where you can see a lot of fair people as compared to the other south places. Hrithik has the Punjabi side genes making him more fairer. With certain style and make up they look more middle eastern with a hint of European.

Karishma also looks Indian especially in movies. Outside movies with her color and eye color yes she looks ethnically ambiguous but also maybe because she has British and Anglo Indian genes on her mother side.

Even Kalki, Jacqueline and Kat look Indian depending on style and make up but yes they are the ones that can be passed of as ethnically ambiguous
