Kannadathi is now being remade in Marathi as Bhagya Dile Tu Mala. But sadly it isn't half as good as the original. Though they have taken the basic premise of the show the story treatment is different. Most importantly the 14 day stay of harsha in bhuvi's house has been skipped.
What I liked:
1) Rajvardhan (Harsha) he is clear about who is good and bad in his family. This this version Prathima's character is more evil than Saniya. Rajvardhan knows that his uncle, aunt and sister-in-law are not good while his brother n sister are good. unlike in kannada where Harsha hates Sanya but forgives Sudarshan who is equally against him if not more.
2) Story isn't dragged like in kannada but moving quite fast. Within 45 episodes kaveri met Ratnamala and Rajvardhan and also joined Ratnamala' office. She also comes to know that Ratnamala n Raj are related pretty soon unlike in kannada where it took almost 150 episodes.
3) here Ratnamala has no illness like in the original so we can be spared of that melodrama.
4) Vaidehi (varu) is not as psycho as shown in kannada. In only one scene in the 2nd episode she suddenly get angry. But after that she is just shown as a normal girl fallen in love.
5) Saniya is initially shown as a good person. But she is manipulated to go against Raj because of Akanksha (Prathima). Unlike kannada where she hates everyone for no rhyme or reason here she has a reason to go against Raj.
What I didn't like:
1) the USP of Kannadathi is the relationship between Harsha and Bhuvi. They hit it off from the first meeting and always had pleasant exchanges every time they met. But in the remake they keep fighting everytime they meet which is a tried and tested formula. Kavari is just like umpteen other female leads and doesn't stand out like Bhuvi who remains calm with a smile even in the toughest of calamities.
2) There are 4 villains in this show. Sudarshan, akanksha, Saniya and Saniya's mother. The quartlet work together to bring Raj down. This make sit too many villains. Unlike in kannada Ratnamala doesn not have anyone in the family with whom she has a sisterly bond.
3) In the original ratnamala is shown as being very intelligent and capable of judging people. But in the remake she seems to blindly believe everyone.
4) As mentioned earlier the 14 day stay of Harsha at Bhuvi's house was the best track of the show which has been skipped here.
5) In the remake ratnamala only holds a Cafe chain and no colleges. Though Kaveri is shown as a teacher in her village she joins ratnamala's comapny as her PA. the office altercations of Raj-Kaveri seem like so many other shows where leads work in same office and fight due to their way of working.
6) the relationship between raj and his sister hasn't been explored yet. They have shown a couple of scenes but maybe in future they will show it when he falls in love. On the other hand Kaveri has only one sister who stays in the village and studies in school. So Kaveri doesn not stay with her sister but rather with Vaidehi (varu). The sisters of the leads played a huge role in HaVi love story which is not the case here.
Overall the uniqueness that Kannadathi offered is not felt in the remake.
