Imlie's job desceiption actually as set by kismat is to fix the lives of her husbands' cousins, siblings etc. Like fate sent Imlie to Tripathis house so the family could then get to know about Nishant's cancer, get him married, and then make Ms.Rupi finally divorce her criminal husband. With the job done at Tripathi house, kismat found another guy whose sibling had some health/mental afflictions and sent her there. This fool does the job alright, but ends up confusing kismat itself by also marrying the brothers in question!!! Then kismat doesn't know what to do, and hence random atrempts at poisoning, kidnapping etc.
