Chiming in on the "Oo Antava" discussion. I've only seen two Samantha movies in the past - Eega and Super Deluxe. No one from Eega made a long-term impact on me. From Super Deluxe, only Vijay Sethupathi made an impression in my memory.

I have not seen Pushpa and am not eager to see it either. But I have seen "Oo Antava" multiple times. Not only has Samantha made an impression on me, but it has also made me curious to watch her in more movies.

In my opinion, the song is undoubtedly a hit and has given Samantha recognition. A good movie role will get you recognition from moviegoers who watched the movie. A hit song will give you recognition from a larger audience.

Of course, one person is a data point not a statistic. And I have not yet watched S2 of Family Man. So I don't know how that would have affected my perceptions.

Ok. Going to watch Oo Antava again now.

What is respect but acknowledgement, appreciation and giving due credit to an artist for the success of a song. She got all of it. As the saying goes, at the right time, at the right place. She was slightly getting familiar with a larger audience with Family man and this song becomes such a hit beyond the two states. In the Telugu industry, this song dropped when she was going through a personal crisis but the hype of this song overshadowed everything else and put her in the lime light once again for professional reasons. Criticism bhi tha, but appreciation also poured in.

P.s. The backstory is she wasn't apparently comfortable with the song but the leading hero convinced her and she went on to do it anyway by trusting his word and now ant bhala toh sab bhala.

Why is a song a hit? It will always be multiple factors, that is not even a point of debate here. Who has gained out of the success of a song is what matters. May be the song hasn't worked in the telugu belt, but it has seeped into the hindi belt. The last time I saw a Telugu item song becoming so famous is a ante amalapuram but it put nobody on the map, because no social media.

Also why does it have to be a zero sum game? A movie can put multiple things and people on the map. It is not like if Arjun and Rashmika have gotten more recognition, then Samantha can't get. War thodi hai, ek ki jeet, doosre ki haar.😆 Good if everyone is benefitting out of it.

And again Kamli, as I said, the popularity of item songs is not a zero sum game. Different songs will serve different purposes for different people involved, there is no hard and fast rule.

P. s. Family man is not massy. It can reach only a limited segment of audience. This was initially the point of the whole discussion. To become a star in truest of sense, one needs to maintain a fine balance of different genres.

You say your personal opinion about the song doesn't matter, yet you pass them off as the opinions of the larger audiences, be it South or Pan-India. You missed the point entirely anyway. I can only type so much on my phone, so yeah. I'm out as well.

My personal opinion on the "quality" of the song doesn't matter. But to say that the song isn't a hit just because there were more popular songs in the past within the Telugu belt is a big joke. This is like saying, why are we speaking of Pushpa when Arjun has had bigger hits in his career. To each their own.

Bruh, do you read before you reply? I never said the song isn't a hit. But rather IT IS a hit because it's a catchy tune and Indravati Chauhan (the singer) sung it perfectly. The song also owes it's success to Pushpa being a hit. The lyrics is also a hit because it mocks the objectification of women and regressive mentality of people. Samantha does nothing to elevate the song. You could have literally any other actress and it would have yielded the same result. I don't know from where you are getting the news of her garnering respect and admiration for this. Claiming as if the song alone stood out due to the actress is ridiculous. It's just her PR at work, churning out countless articles, which is no better than Alia and DP's PR.

On topic, best way to eat aloo is with a bit of salt or good seasoning. I've had fries before without salt or seasoning, and it just did not hit the spot. THOSE FRIES ARE NOT WORTH EATING.
