I miss the old Bollywood

I don't know if anyone can relate but while I agree that there were stereotypes, mysogynistic undertones, regressive and corny/cheesy stuff before in movies, the old times had another kind of charm. I know that there are more movies with social messages and that connect us with reality etc but there was a certain level of wholesomeness before that I can't seem to find in current movies. The good ol' SRK romcoms, the Emraan Hashmi-KK era, the Imran Khan era etc

I miss that 1990s-2009 Bollywood so much :(

One of the reasons is there is no charm left. Blame Amir for starting this trend of 100 crore and Salman for the non stop south style remakes. See the condition now.

Music is also inconsistent. Rarely we have a good album. Pritam and KK should be back.

I miss having better stories and songs

I miss 80s Bollywood. 😭

- They used to have at least 1 rape scene in most films (-even if only to titillate the audiences)

- I miss the evil step-mothers. Evil mother-in-laws.

- Naagins and Naginas.

- The toxic masculinity.

- The stalker-cum-husband trope

- The racism, homophobia, transphobia, FATphobia.

- The misogyny ☺️

I mean, of course most of these things are still there today, but they've been reduced by about 80% - how ironic

I really really miss those times when the only females on set were Saroj Khan and the Heroine's Mummyji. Particularly because the 99.99% of male energy would find it's way onto the screen and into the narrative, which was not problematic. At all. 👍🏼

Your post made me laugh cuz I haven't watched that many movies from the 80's... except a few with Sri. But we have definitely come a long way from then to now.

Sridevi's Nagina was pretty cool though.... you gotta start somewhere with supernatural elements and sci fi stuff before you get to the cutting edge stuff. 😆
