Yeah I'm not crazy about the Bollywood-ish twist to the plot, but this is what i just wrote about this in my blog:
Honestly, I donât get the uproar. I mean Anthony was going to court (and eventually marry) Edwina in the book too if Beegate hadnât happened so fortuitously and the three women hadnât seen them. He had no thoughts of marrying Kate up to that point - he even tells her straight out after they kiss.
Even after theyâre discovered, Anthony was reluctant to offer marriage , his first thought being to get the women to shut up about it. Itâs only when Mama F pointed out that others could have seen them from the house too that he relented. And at the point before Beegate happens, even though Kate has realized that she may have feelings for Anthony, she readily tells him she has withdrawn her objections to his suit. So remove Beegate from the book and this is probably how it would have gone.
Remember Anthony is running scared from âfeelingsâ and âloveâ and the only reason he pursues Edwina is because he is unmoved by her and knows she will never stir those feelings in him. Kate has always been a tad self-sacrificing and if show!Kate feels that Edwina is at all interested in Anthony, I donât see how sheâd declare her feelings for him. And I donât think Edwina is in love with Anthony - itâs like CVD said itâs not a conventional triangle where two women are fighting over a man. Itâs more a complex one where feelings (and the denial of them) and family and duty is affecting the choices they make. And in the end, when they choose each other it will be because they want to and not because theyâre forced to.
Edwina, imo, is not going to be heartbroken when she learns about Anthony and Kate - she is going to be enraged (didnât someone from the cast say âbetrayalâ when asked about S2?). Which means sheâs going to be shattered that the sister she loves so much kept such a huge secret from her, and the man she was going to marry was about to do so while harbouring feelings for her sister. Sheâs going to feel like a pawn in their love story and I wouldnât blame her one bit!
Just my take đ
It will be melodramatic when the reveal comes - but it seems like they've styled this entire season to be Bollywood-ish, so I'm kind of resigned to it now and actually looking forward to it.
ETA: Julia mentioned that Edwina maybe a little more interested in A than she is in the books, so that might be a messy but still I don't think shell be in love with him..
