That's stumps on a day that belongs to India. Sri Lanka will be really disappointed with their bowling when the ball turned and bounced unevenly for spinner during the day. They conceded runs at 4.25 an over, and let India score at least 100 over what was par. And when i9n the night it didn't turn that much, Sri Lanka came up against two world-class fast bowlers. Now at 86 for 6, they will be facing the spinners in the afternoon. They could end up giving up a match-deciding lead. Shreyas Iyer shone with the bat. Yes the bowling was not great but he was superb with his intent. As were Vihari, Kohli and Pant, but Iyer went on to score 92. Bumrah and Shami took five wickets between them.

India were all over Sri Lanka in Day 1 of this pink ball Test match. The Lankans started off well, with their trio of spinners getting eight wickets amongst themselves to make India all out in two sessions of play.

However, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant took the bowlers by the scruff to their necks to play some crucial knocks. Iyer nearly got his century before being stumped but has made a strong case for himself for the No.5 spot in the Test team.

The lights went up and India turned to Bumrah and Shami to do the damage with pink ball. The pacers didn't disappoint, striking five wickets amongst themselves as SL struggled to get the runs flowing.

Angelo Mathews was the only one able to fend off the threat of the Indian bowlers. He read Axar Patel nicely and dispatched him for a couple of maximums. But, an off-cutter from Bumrah poked to the second slip forced the veteran to walk back, just a few runs short of his half-century.

After routing the Lankans on the T20 series, India looks well on their way to have a one-sided win in this Test series as well. Should get them some important points in the WTC cycle.
