This is the only drama Iâm watching. Donât normally like dramas like this but Iâm actually enjoying it as Iâm a sucker for a Cinderella story.
Regarding the violence, I personally think it depends on the context. In this show itâs clearly being shown that the characters engaging in violent abuse are âevilâ. The violence is being depicted as a negative act which Hamza and Dadi are vehemently apposing.
For me whatâs problematic is when men slap their wives or parents slap their daughter and itâs justified because she was âacting outâ. That happens a lot in dramas. Or when women silently endure emotional or verbal abuse from their husband because theyâre âgood girlsâ - thatâs happening in Yeh Na Thi Hamari Qismat. Or when husbands are abusive, then after beating the crap out of their wives suddenly âchangeâ and the wife happily forgives him - like in Band Khirkiyan.
In this drama Hala is silently enduring abuse from her family but Hamza is speaking out and from the promos it looks like heâs going to encourage her to speak up for herself. So they are actually showing silently enduring physical or verbal abuse is NOT a virtue. Which is a good thing.
