Ooh.. that's why I don't usually like shows/movies based on books especially if I've read them already but if I haven't then I do!
I'm mostly not reading these books for now but I know if the writers ain't involved a lot gets lost in adaptation. Happened in Shadow and Bone as well but as I haven't read, I don't have much qualms. Do watch it, it's beautiful!
I actually find myself oscillating quite a bit when it comes to book-movie adaptations.
With LOTR I watched the Fellowship of the Ring and was so fascinated that I read the book in the hiatus between part 1 and 2, and though JRR’s world building is impeccable, when it comes to sheer entertainment I still prefer the movies. But then I didn’t feel the same about the Hobbit Trilogy.
With P&P I have usually loved every iteration of the book, each one brings its own spin and different interpretation to the book - but then that’s how iconic P&P is! I still think the BBC version came the closest to the book, but I have enjoyed the other versions too including Lost in Austen!
I recently watched Death on the Nile and did not enjoy it. The book though? Agatha Christie does not disappoint but I guess in this case having read the books takes away the important element of surprise at the denouements that are the most astounding. But still, I enjoyed David Suchet’s Poirot series and the Miss Marple TV adaptations.
So yeah, it can be a hit or miss with me…
Shadow and Bone is YA fantasy right? With Ben Barnes? I did catch a glimpse of the trailer. Perhaps might watch it some day, I need to be in a certain mood to watch fantasy. After the disaster that was GoT I feel like staying away from that genre and keep going back to my fav LoTR if I need my fantasy fix! 😆
