It was intended two be a three season show originally.. But at the end of s2 the creators found the show was quite popular so they extended it till season 5.. So that is why you'll see the drastic change in storytelling starting this season 3..

I mean there were some good episodes from s6-11.. But the overall plot was too dragged and sometimes things became too predictable.. The best storytelling was till s5 and later on from s12 onwards

Yeah.. It didn't see because by the end of s2 they had renewed it till s5..

Think of it like this Killing off the Yellow eyed demon would've been a book end to them taking revenge for their mother and pushing them to this life of hunters!

The opening of gates of hell was the plot point that started the storyline that would continue till s5..

That's how the storytelling changes... And that's why you've seen the interconnected plot since the end of s2😊

Also the creators changed after s2.. Previously it was kripke production or something but later on i guess from s3 or s4 he is just an executive producer..

They have the joke about this in that spoof ep in s6 which I was talking about!!..😆
